The quiet end to the month continues, 2 Black Tern out east the best of the days sightings. Elsewhere an adult Spoonbill and 2 Common Sandpiper on Kilnsea wetlands, 2 Little Gull nearby on beacon ponds, a Redwing in sykes field and 2 Spotted Flycatcher and a Wheatear were present.

Sunny spells and a strong F6 south westerly. Watches: 0525-1500.

A change in the wind direction saw very little moving over the sea or land, but a mobile male Serin wandering the triangle down to the Warren (may have been the bird from Easington on the 25th?). A male Blue-headed Wagtail at Kilnsea wetlands then flew off south while a Spoonbill, 2 Greenshank, a Common Sandpiper and 1 Little Gull remained here during the day.

Ringing: 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackbird, 1 Dunnock, 1 Chaffinch.

Polite reminder for all visitors: the Little Tern colony at Beacon Ponds is extremely vulnerable to disturbance. PLEASE STAY WELL AWAY from the fenced area of beach which is clearly signposted, and respect the wardens on duty. Up to 50 birds are present in the colony and can be viewed well from the flood bank.

Early morning rain, then sunny spells and a cool F6 northerly. Watches: 0550-1900.

All of todays action was over the sea with 2 Tufted Duck, 26 Common Scoter, 2 Red-throated Diver, a Great Northern Diver, 49 Fulmar, 41 Manx Shearwater, 213 Gannet, 2 Shag, 290 Kittiwake, 12 Sandwich Tern, 2 Roseate Tern, 4 Common Tern, a Skua Sp, 478 Guillemot, 22 Razorbill, 7 Puffin and 571 Large Auk sp.

Overcast with showers and sunny preiods and a F6 north westerly.  Watches: 0530-1700,

It was possibly the quietest day in May so far with few migrants about and little on the move the best being 2 Garganey on Kilnsea wetlands and a Spoonbill which flew south along with 4 Barnacle Geese of unknown origin (maybe heading back to Norfolk). A Hobby, 34 Swallow and 9 House Martin also headed south.

There were 3 Cuckoo still about the area with just 4 Wheatear, an unseasonal Teal on the wetlands while the Pale-bellied Brent still held on.

Ringing: 2 Stock Dove pulli, 2 Robin pulli.

There were less migrants reported today, but a male Serin spent the day in a private garden in Easington (presumably the bird from the previous day) with a Red-rumped Swallow present nearby in the evening giving good views overhead.

Elsewhwere the Garganey pair and both Spoonbill remained on Kilnsea wetlands.

Showers on and off, some heavy with a F4 north westerly.  Watches: 0600-1900.

The highlight of the day was a Stone Curlew flushed from near the crown and anchor and after going missing for several hours eventually settled in the triangle, flying down to the breach later. Birders here also had an overhead Bee-eater head north last seen over the Obs, a Quail seen twice in a private garden, a Serin over Kilnsea with 2 Garganey and 2 Spoonbill on Kilnsea wetlands.

The first Bee-eater of the year flew south over Easington then spent time sat on wires at Southfield farm before locating to the riding school.

The drake Garganey was still on Kilnsea wetlands and joined by a Spoonbill. Other sightings included 2-3 Turtle Dove in the Easington to Sammys area, Tree Pipit in Kilnsea, 3 Little Gull on Kilnsea wetlands and the Black Brant still present with the Brent flock.

Hazy sunshine warm with a F4 south westerly. Watches: 0600-1700.

The drake Garganey remained on Kilnsea wetlands but otherwise few migrants to trouble the totsla the best being the Ruff, 2 Spotted Flycatcher, 7 Wheatear and a White Wagtail.

There was some movement with 64 Brent Geese and 85 Grey Plover heading out east, 2 Shag headed north, while southbound 7 Barnacle Geese (4 had blue darvics with white lettering), 2 Tufted Duck, 41 Kittiwake, 2 Mediterranean Gull, 17 Swift, 99 Swallow, 55 House Martin, 3 Flava Wagtail, 4 Chaffinch, a Siskin and 1 Corn Buning.

Ringing: 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Chaffinch.

Cloudy with a F4 westerly. Watches: 0550-1900.

There was little change overall, a few extra migrants and a trickle of ongoing visible migration (vismig). The drake Garganey was still on Kilnsea wetlands with other totals of a Little-ringed Plover, single Ruff, 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 Common Tern, an Arctic Tern, 1 Garden Warbler, 2 Spotted Flycatcher, 16 Wheatear, a Black Redstart and 2 Siskin. The day also saw an increase in Waders as the tide dropped with around 500 Grey Plover and 1000 Dunlin off the Warren plus 19 Curlew, 21 Sanderling and 62 Knot. Aslo 85 Grey Plover and 100 Dunlin flew out east.

More steady movement southwards saw 3 Marsh Harrier, a Mediterranean Gull, 20 Swift, 8 Sand Martin, 231 Swallow, 78 House Martin, 8 Flava Wagtail, a White Wagtail and 5 Goldfinch recorded.

Ringing: 2 Tree Sparrow pulli, 4 House Sparrow pulli, 2 Chiffchaff, 3 Blackbird, 1 Robin, 1 Goldfinch.

Rain on and off all day and an increasing F3-4 south westerly. Watches: 0530-1700.

There was a clear out of the previous days migrants leaving the drake Garganey, Little-ringed Plover, 1 Ruff, a Willow Warbler, just 2 Spotted Flycatcher and 5 Wheatear.

A 2cy Caspian Gull was on Kilnsea wetlands plus the Black Brant, Pale-bellied Brent and 154 Dark-bellied Brents plus a late Teal.

Overland movement was similar but without the good birds with 2 Marsh Harrier, 9 Swift, 126 Swallow, 31 House Martin and a Flava Wagtail.

Ringing: 1 Chaffinch.

Bright and sunny with a light F1 south westerly. Watches: 0530-1900.

It was a decent day for overland movement, albeit no big numbers as it starts to get late in the month, but another Red-rumped Swallow headed south, a Woodlark u-turned being refound at Sammys and a Turtle Dove headed out west over the Humber along with 177 Swallow, 25 House Martin, 8 Sand Martin, 5 Flava Wagtail, a Siskin, 3 Jay, 10 Jackdaw and a Mediterranean Gull. 

A Garganey was new on Kilnsea wetlands with the day also having decent totals of 15 Spotted Flycatcher and 19 Wheatear plus a Little-ringed Plover, 1 Ruff, a Whinchat, 1 Redstart, 4 Willow Warbler and a wandering Corn Bunting.

The Black Brant still remains in the area along with a Pale-bellied Brent among 93 Brents and just 200 Dunlin on the Humber.

Ringing: 1 Tree Sparrow pulli, 4 House Sparrow pulli, 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Sedge Warbler, 1 Blackcap, 1 Lesser Whitethroat.

Sunny start clouding over with rain late evening and a F4 south westerly. Watches: 0530-1800.

The rarest bird of the spring (so far) appeared on Kilnsea wetlands, a MASKED WAGTAIL, the 1st for Spurn and Yorkshire and 2nd for the UK, albeit a race of White Wagtail from Central Asia. It relocated to Sammys where it showed well upto dusk. There were no other migrants to match its quality with a Common Sandpiper, 1 Garden Warbler, 8 Spotted Flycathcer, a Whinchat and 25 Wheatear the most obvious.

The best of the day for the vismiggers was a ringtail Hen Harrier south over the sea along with 41 Swift, 4 Jackdaw, 155 Swallow, 78 House Martin, 3 Flava Wagtail, a Tree Pipit, 3 Chaffinch, just 7 Goldfinch, 2 Siskin, a Corn Bunting an a Yellowhammer.

Bright, warm and sunny with a F1 south easterly. Watches: 0600-1800.

The pick of the day was a Nightjar trapped in Church field, but again few other noteable migrants the best being 2 Common Sandpiper, 2 Cuckoo, a Hobby, a Garden Warbler, 6 Spotted Flycatcher, 16 Wheatear, a White Wagtail and a Tree Pipit.

A bit of movement as it starts to get late in the month with 11 Whimbrel out east, 10 Swift, 261 Swallow, 29 House Martin, 4 Flava Wagtail, an Alba Wagtail, 1 Tree Pipit, 12 Chaffinch, 3 Goldfinch and a Siskin.

Elsewhere a Pochard and 2 Tufted Duck on Kilmsea wetlands and 1000 Dunlin on the Humber.

Ringing: 1 Nightjar, 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 6 Great Tit pulli.

Early morning rain cleared, long sunny spells humid with a F3-2 south easterly. Watches: 0600-1800.

A potential first for Spurn came in the form of a SPANISH WAGTAIL, (the Iberian race of Yellow Wagtail) first heard then seen flying north over the Warren, located several hours later feeding around the feet of cattle in well field where it showed well. The day also saw another Red-rumped Swallow in the triangle eventually fly south along with another good count of 766 Swallow plus a Hobby, 10 Sand Martin, 46 House Martin, 3 Flava Wagtail, a Tree Pipit and 2 Goldfinch.

Migrants saw both the Curlew Sandpiper and Little Stint again on beacon ponds, 5 Common Sandpiper, 3 Cuckoo, 3 Willow Warbler, 3 Chiffchaff, 4 Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Redstart, 15 Wheatear, a White Wagtail and a Tree Pipit.

Sunny spells and showeres with a F3 easterly. Watches: 0500-1805.

It was another steady day with the vismigers maybe having the best of it with the first Black Tern of the year heading out east over the breach as did 14 Common Tern and a Temminck's Stint out at the lighthouse. Also moving were 2 Swift, 2 Jay, 22 Sand Martin, 448 Swallow, 69 House Martin, a Flava Wagtail and 3 Siskin.

There were fewer migrants about despite the easterly (that had given some hope for some new birds in) with 2 Common Sandpiper, 2 Cuckoo, a Black Redstart, 2 Spotted Flycatcher, a Whinchat, 3 Wheatear, a female Blue-headed type and 4 Yellow Wagtail. 

Other sightings included a Black Brant still present, a Little Stint and Curlew Sandpiper on the Humber and a Kingfisher on peter lane.

Bright and sunny with F3 south westerly-south easterly. Watches: 0450-1930.

A decent arrival mid morning was no doubt responsible for a nice BROWN SHRIKE to appear in the triangle, elusive at times it gave decent views with patience and in the evening sat out in an apple tree near the roadside. The day saw final totals of 2 Common Sandpiper, 2 Curlew Sandpiper on beacon ponds. 3 Cuckoo, a Turtle Dove at Sammys, 2 Tree Pipit, 6 Willow Warbler, a Blackcap, 3 Garden Warbler, a Ring Ouzel, 13 Spotted Flycatcher, 3 Whinchat, 31 Wheatear and a Siskin.

There was some overland movement with 512 Swallow heading south the biggest count this spring with also 6 Marsh Harrier, 2 Jay, 7 Jackdaw, 6 Rook, 6 Carrion Crow, 23 Sand Martin, 49 House Martin, 14 Flava Wagtail and 4 Linnet with a summer plumage Great Northern Diver drifting north close inshore.

Ringing: 17 Starling pulli, 1 Blackbird.

Sunny spells with a cool F5 south westerly. Watches: 0530-1900.

There were a few nice highlights during the day with another 2 Red-rumped Swallow lingering in the afternoon by the Blue bell, not long after a single was seen going south at the Warren, but maybe returned? with aslo an Osprey heading south, 2 Spoonbill at Kilnsea wetlands, the Temminck's Stint still present and elusive here along with a nice red Curlew Sandpiper.

There were few migrants about the most interesting a Stonechat seen on Clubleys late evening which showed some 'Siberian' Features. Also present were 2 Spotted Flycatcher, 17 Wheatear, a Grey Wagtail and 1 White Wagtail.

There was again a bit of a trickle of birds on the move in addition to those mentioned above which saw 2 Tufted Duck, a Grey Heron, 5 Swift, a Hobby, 7 Jackdaw, 8 Sand Martin, 236 Swallow, 30 House Martin, 8 Flava and a Siskin.

Ringing: 1 Wheatear, 1 Tree Sparrow.

Overcast day brightenijg later with a cool F4 south westerly. Watches: 0545-1800.

The Temminck's Stint was still around Kilnsea wetlands and beacon ponds, but it was overland southerly movement that brought 3 Red-rumped Swallow past the vismiggers at Numpties. (The first was tracked all the way to the point, maybe seen at Gib point later, the second was probably the bird seen earler at bempton and a third? south late afternoon). Also seen moving today were an immature Spoonbill at Kilnsea wetlands which went north west, a ringtail Hen Harrier, a Hooded Crow, 5 Swift, a Jay, 14 Sand Martin, 151 Swallow, 8 House Martin, 3 Flava Wagtail, a Grey Wagtail and 3 Siskin.

Migrants were again thin on the ground wiith a Ruff, 3 Common Sandpiper, 3 Cuckoo, 7 Willow Warbler, a Spotted Flycatcher, 20 Wheatear and 4 Yellow Wagtail.

Overcast with rain and a coll F4 south westerly.  Watches: 0630-1100.

The highlight of the day was a Temminck's Stint mobile between Kilnsea wetlands and beacon ponds the same area also having the Black Brant and a Pale-bellied Brent among 300 Brent Geese, 4 Common Sandpiper, a Greenshank and 25 Little Tern. 

The day yet again only had a scatter of migrants with 2 Cuckoo, 4 Willow Warbler, 3 Chiffchaff, a Garden Warbler, 25 Wheatear, 10 Yellow Wagtail and 3 White Wagtail, while the best of any movement was 137 Swallow heading south.

Overcast with the odd sunny spell and a F5 south westerly. Watches: 0530-1700.

Not much change but a few extra bits for the vismiggers overland the best of which were a Red-rumped Swallow and a Woodlark south plus 2 Red Kite, 10 Swift, a Hobby, 5 Jackdaw, 2 Rook, 4 Carrion Crow, 12 Sand Martin, 243 Swallow, 17 House Martin, 8 Flava Wagtail and a Corn Bunting. The best of the sea 7 Eider, 8 Golden Plover and 6 Arctic Tern.

Migrants were few and widely scattered with 10 Whimbrel, a Ruff, 8 Common Sandpiper, a Green Sandpiper, 1 Cuckoo, 7 Swift, 3 Jay, 3 Chiffchaff, a Redstart, 1 Whinchat, 17 Wheatear and a Grey Wagtail. 

The Spoonbill remained in the area visting the Humber, the Black Brant by long bank with a Pale-bellied Brent, now upto 35 Little Tern at beacon ponds and a Merlin blogging the area.

Ringing: 1 Wood Pigeon, 2 Wheatear.

Overcast with a F4 SW-SE wind. Watches: 0530-1500.

It was quieter day overall with again a trickle of south bound species and a scattering of migrants in the bushes. On the move were a Grey Heron, a ringtail Harrier sp, 1 Red Kite, 2 Avocet, 3 Whimbrel, a Swift, 1 Hobby, 5 Sand Martin, 118 Swallow, 3 House Martin, a Yellow Wagtail, 12 Linnet and 14 Goldfinch.

Migrants included a nice male Pied Flycatcher at Kew, a Ruff, 3 Jay, 2 Whinchat and 22 Wheatear.

The Spoonbill was still in the Kilnsea wetlands area as was the Black Brant.

Ringing: 1 Stock Dove, 3 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 1 Wren.

Bright and sunny with a light F1 north easterly. Watches: 0530-1500.

There was very little on the move and migrant numbers were again low the best of the day being 2 Pied Flycatcher (male point, female rose cottage) with totals of a Cuckoo, 1 Hobby, 2 Willow Warbler, 7 Chiffchaff, 18 Sedge Warbler, 7 Reed Warbler, 8 Blackcap, a Garden Warbler, 11 Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Ring Ouzel, 2 Whinchat, 10 Wheatear and a White Wagtail.

The best of the movers were 3 Eider, a Great Northern Diver and 109 Swallow.

Other sightings included a Spoonbill, a Spotted Redshank and Ruff on Kilnsea wetlands, the Black Brant and 2 Pale-belllied Brent by long bank and a Greenshank song flighting over long bank.

Ringing: 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 1 Chaffinch.

A warm sunny day with an increasing F2-5 northerly. Watches: 0555-1130.

Despite there being a clearout of migrants and a change to a northerly wind there were actually more birds on the move the hightlight from the day included a mobile Serin which wandered the area for a few hours then headed south, a Red-rumped Swallow which lingered around the triangle from 06:53-07:25 then flew south, an Osprey which eventually headed north west, our first Wood Sandpiper of the spring on Kilnsea wetlands which flew off north, a locally rare male Mandarin which flew north, settling on Kilnsea wetlands and the Black Brant on the Humber along with 2 Pale-bellied Brent and 337 Brent Geese. 

Migrants included a Common Sandpiper, 2 Cuckoo, 4 Willow Warbler, 5 Chiffchaff, a Grasshopper Warbler, 4 Blackcap, 4 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Redwing, 2 Ring Ouzel, a Whinchat, 12 Wheatear and 2 White Wagtail.

In addition to those species mentioned above there were a few other birds moving with a Golden Plover, 1 Common Sandpiper, a Kestrel, 8 Magpie, 11 Jackdaw, 17 Rook, 267 Swallow, 3 House Martiin, 4 Yellow Wagtail and a Tree Pipit. 

Ringing: 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Chaffinch.

C;loudy with sunny spells and hazy sunshine with a F3 westerly. Watches: 0600-1100.

The day saw increases in returning breeders and migrants passing through, some only briefly present moving on quickly. The best of the day was a singing Wood Warbler by pancho pond plus a Little-ringed Plover, 5 Jay, 18 Willow Warbler, 24 Sedge Warbler, 8 Blackcap, 2 Garden Warbler, 13 Lesser Whitethroat, 51 Whitethroat, 2 Ring Ouzel, singles of Fieldfare and Redwing, 9 Whinchat, 48 Wheatear, 2 White Wagtail, 2 Tree Pipit and a Brambling.

Ringing: 1 Whinchat, 3 Sedge Warbler, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Whitethroat, 2 Willow Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Chaffinch.

Todays hightlights included a Turtle Dove along peter lane, a Woodlark north from the point and a male Blue-headed Wagtail plius a female accompanying him too. Other totals were a Cuckoo, 2 Willow Warbler, 16 Sedge Warbler,a Graden Warbler, 8 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Goldcrest, 3 Ring Ouzel, a Redwing, 1 Whinchat, 17 Wheatear, 2 White Wagtail and a Tree Pipiot.

Overcast with sunny spells and lkight winds. Watches: 0630-1000.

A Woodlark south over Easington then the Warren was the days highlight, but maybe 9 Ring Ouzel at Sammys was a good count (6 flew north, 3 present later maybe some returned?). Todays counts included 2 Common Sandpiper, a Cuckoo, 2 Hobby, 5 Jay, a Willow Warbler, 3 Fieldfare, a very grey Song Thrush at Sammys, 1 Redwing, 2 Whinchat, 23 Wheatear, 2 White Wgatil and a Brambling.

A cool cloudy day with a F3 north easterly. Watches; 0555-1005.

It was hard to get a grasp on numbers but maybe there were 3 Hawfinch today with the Easington bird still present, another west over Sammys early morning which may? have been the same which flew south past the Warren later. Migrant numbers were pretty steady and unremarkable with a Ruff, 1 Little-ringed Plover north, a singing Greenshank on beacon ponds, 1 Willow Warbler, 8 Chiffchaff, 5 Blackcap, 2 Ring Ouzel, 2 Fieldfare, a Black Redstart, 2 Redstart, 4 Whinchat, 4 Wheatear and 2 White Wagtail. 

Apart from those mentioned above there was little else moving the best being 7 Sandwich Tern, 8 Little Tern, 12 Swallow and 3 Flava Wagtail.

A dull mild day with a light southerly. Watches: 0610-1015.

A nice male Hawfinch in an Easington garden was the highlight of the day closely followed by the first Spotted Flycatcher of the year in the churchyard. Migrant counts while similar showed and continual small turnover of species and numbers with 20 Whimbrel, 2 Common Sandpiper, 10 Sandwich Tern, 3 Little Tern, 7 Willow Warbler, 3 Blackcap, 19 Lesser Whitethroat, a Ring Ouzel, 4 Fieldfare, 2 Redwing, 2 Redstart, 3 Whinchat, 7 Wheatear, 5 Yellow Wagtail, a Tree Pipit and a Brambling.

Little on the move again the best were overland with a Hobby, 6 Sand Martin, 117 Swallow, a Grey Wagtail and a Tree Pipit.

Overnight rain, hazy sunshine, humid with a Light F1-2 southerly. Watches: 0645-1100.

A calmer day seemed to have a good effect with an increase in returning breeders and migrant totals including the first returning 4 Little Tern to beacon ponds plus day totals of a Jack Snipe, 18 Whimbrel, adult Curlew Sandpiper again at beacon ponds, a Common Sandpiper, 2 Cuckoo, the Wryneck still around canal scrape, a Hobby which caught a Sand Martin, 31 willow Warbler, 16 Chiffchaff, 30 Sedge Warbler, 10 Reed Warbler, 6 Blackcap, a Garden Warbler, 8 Lesser Whitethroat, 30 Whitethroat, a Ring Ouzel, 6 Brambling, 3 REdwing, 2 Whinchat, 12 Wheatear, a female type Blue-headed Wagtail, 5 Yellow Wagtail and a Brambling.

There was a bit more movement with a Marsh Harrier, 2 Jay, 18 Jackdaw, 9 Sand Martin, 9 House Martin, 236 Swallow, 14 Starling, 9 Flava Wagtail, 3 Alba Wagtail, 2 Chaffinch, 44 Linnet and 14 Goldfinch, while 30 Arctic Tern headed out east along with 2 Curlew, a Whimbrel, 15 Bar-tailed Godwit and 5 Brent Geese.
