Come and help us at our weekend winter work parties from December through to February. Free accommodation to volunteers, as well as brunch, teas and coffee!

22 November 2022

Once again, we are delighted to be running our weekend work parties over the December 2022 - February 2023 period.

As always, we are offering free accommodation on the Friday and Saturday nights for volunteers, and a cooked brunch and much tea & coffee on the Saturday & Sunday is included! If you wish to stay at the Observatory please email Rob on accommodation.spurnbirdobs@hotmail.com

Please find more information about the planned work parties, so you can make the necessary arrangement to attend your preferred Weekend! Each work party begins at 09.00hrs and finishes at around 15.30-16.00hrs.

If you can’t make both days over the weekend, please let us know which day you can attend, if you require accommodation, and if you have any special dietary requirements.

Saturday 3rd December 2022 - Corner Field, cut and removal of dead growth, bramble and scrub ready for regeneration in 2023. Brash clearance for new pathways and thickening out willow strips. Wellies or waterproof walking boots recommended.

Sunday 4th December 2022 - Coppicing willows and other hardy larger shrubs in Church Field, raking and burning off of rank grassland ready for new meadow growth in spring 2023. Wellies or waterproof walking boots recommended.

Sunday 15th January 2023 - (accommodation only available for Saturday night, Sunday if required) Schippers Field - This is the latest addition to the Observatory owned land, and as such requires a lot of work to get into the shape we want.
This is a good opportunity to access an area of land previously out of bounds, so seeing the triangle from a slightly different perspective. We will be thickening up the existing hedgerows by planting hawthorn, blackthorn & crab apple. Wellies or waterproof walking boots recommended.

Saturday 28th January 2023 - Beacon Ponds - work in the Little Tern colony confines, beach-clean and vegetation clearing - ready for the 2023 Little Tern season. Wellies or waterproof walking boots recommended.

Sunday 29th January 2023 - TBC

Saturday 11th February 2023 - TBC

Thank you in advance, we look forward to seeing you on one or more of the work parties.
