The SBOT committee met virtually on Saturday 27th November where the treasurer gave a financial update including a draft budget for 2023. Interest rates and energy costs are a complex factor, but in a nutshell the energy costs for the Observatory and Kew Villa has already increased by 130%.
The committee considered, at length, a range of suggestions for cost increases. The overriding issue is that the observatory needs to cover the cost increases as we cannot make a loss which without intervention we currently are forecasting.
So, appreciating that all of us is affected by the increased cost of living, the committee are sorry to announce the following small increase to prices as of the 1st January 2023, and hope you can understand the rationale behind the decision.
FRIENDS OF SPURN
Single membership increase by £2 per year to £26.
Family membership increase by £3 per year to £36
Single Lifetime membership increase by £50 to £500
Family Lifetime membership increase by £75 to £675
Friends who have already renewed for 2022/23 will not be affected by the FOS price change until September, but if you haven't renewed your membership, you have until 31st December 2022 to avoid the price increase. Members who haven't renewed will receive an email shortly, so please don't make another payment unless you receive the email.
