Andy Roadhouse was feeling a bit down today after making one almighty cock-up yesterday when he messed up a probable first for Spurn. He and Pete Alker heard
a bunting like call in the trap at the Warren and managed to see the culprit - a phylloscopus warbler, it was seen well but only briefly, although calling constantly.
Unfortunately he didn’t consider Eastern Bonelli’s Warbler due to having not seen them since 1986 and the very obvious supercillium the bird had seemed
to be wrong from what he remembered of them. It flew across the road and nets were opened, but the bird wasn’t seen or heard again. After listening to the call
of Eastern Bonelli’s Warbler he was sure that’s what the bird was and apparently Eastern’s can show superciliums – so looks like one has
slipped through the net! He apologizes profusely!! |

and 1 Goldcrest but the show was stolen when a birder walked into the sea-watching hide and said “after all these years of coming down here, it’s the
first time I’ve seen a Green Woodpecker” - well it would be due to them being like rocking horse s**t down here! He had it along the Canal at
11.00 – it would be a Spurn tick for many Spurn listers!
An August Thorn moth was the 4th record for Spurn.
