Most of the days highlights were on the Humber – a Grey Phalarope flew over the Point and onto the Humber, 5
Pomarine Skuas spent a while harassing birds on the Humber and a Little Auk and 2 Goosander were also on there. A
Long-eared Owl was at the Point while other migrants included 1 Stonechat, 80 Blackbird, 6 Fieldfare, 8 Redwing, 15 Chaffinch, 7 Siskin, 3 Twite, 2 Mealy Redpoll, 6
Lapland Bunting and 2 Snow Bunting. |

last seen flying NW past Sammy’s Point, a Great Grey Shrike was found at the Point where it showed well for most of the day, 4
White-fronted Geese flew south, 2 Waxwings came in off the sea and there were 3 Black Redstarts in the area
(2 at the Blue Bell and 1 at the Point). |

The highlight of the day was a Pallas’s Warbler which was found in a mist-net at Kew, there was another good arrival of Blackbirds with at
least 570 counted, other migrants included 5 Woodcock, 2 Waxwing in, 2 Black Redstart, 14 Fieldfare, 18 Redwing, 13 Song Thrush, 1 Mistle Thrush, 2
Blackcap, 10 Goldcrest, 970 Starling, 4 Brambling, 3 Siskin, 6 Snow Bunting. |

The conditions made birding a little difficult, a Tree-type Pipit flew south without stopping but called more like Olive-backed Pipit and can only be put down as a
probable. The Waxwing day record was broken with 50 birds and included the largest flock ever recorded at Spurn – 26,
which seems paltry with the numbers being recorded elsewhere. Other birds moving south were 51 Pink-footed Geese, 2 Brent Geese, 6 Wigeon, 7 Teal, 2 Scaup, 7 Eider, 18 Common
Scoter, 4 Velvet Scoter, 2 Goldeneye, 5 Red-throated Diver, 1 Shag, 1 Sparrowhawk, 7 Knot, 2 Dunlin, 1 Snipe, 129 Herring Gull, 1 Glaucous Gull, 2 Shore
Lark, 1 Swallow, 7 Meadow Pipit, 2 Rock Pipit, 2 alba Wagtail, 2 Fieldfare and 1 Redwing in off, 58 Starling + 16 in, 11 Chaffinch, 11 Greenfinch, 41 Goldfinch, 40
