  Friday 30th
 

The last day of the month could not have ended any worse but at least there were some sunny spells, little of note except a Shag blogging, 1000 Golden Plover and 26 Black-tailed Godwit on the Humber, 3 Stock Dove S, a Redwing (Point), 6 Goldfinch (4 S), 25 Siskin S plus 9 in the Crown.

   
  Thursday 29th
 

Even worse today with a stiff SW wind albeit plenty of sunshine with birds of note being an extra Coot along the Canal making 7, Black-tailed Godwits reached 54 at the Tank Blocks, 10 Stock Dove (7 S), 2 Skylark and 3 Meadow Pipit S, a Rock Pipit at Chalk Bank, 7 Goldfinch S plus 1 in the Crown, 44 Siskin S plus 6 in the Crown, 1 Linnet S and 2 Snow Bunting came in.

   
  Wednesday 28th
 

Little of note as previous days but at least there was a glimpse of the sun now again in a stiff SW wind.

 

Of interest today was a Little Egret and 800 Golden Plover on the Humber, a Jack Snipe at Wire Dump, 112 Black-tailed Godwit (Tank Blocks), 3 Meadow Pipit, a Rock Pipit S, 5 Stonechat, 3 Redwing, a Chiffchaff (Churchyard), 25 Siskin S and a Snow Bunting at Middle Camp.

   
  Tuesday 27th
 

A quiet day all round with just a few new arrivals and the odd bird going south Siskin’s apart, cloudy all day with little wind.

 

Of note today were 3 Woodcock (2 Point, 1 Crown), a Meadow Pipit, 4 Stonechat, 65 Blackbird (5 S), 29 Fieldfare (28 S), 3 Song Thrush, 5 Redwing (3 S), 4 Goldfinch (3 S), 33 Siskin S plus 4 at the Crown and a Snow Bunting S.

   
  Monday 26th
 

More sand and debris were deposited on the road this morning and last night but no damage seems to have occurred, clearing started today and hopefully the road will be re-opened later.

 

On the bird front very little of note with 6 Shag, 2 Wigeon, 13 Teal and a Tufted Duck S, 5 Eider N, a Long-tailed Duck S, 105 Common Scoter S, 2 Goldeneye N, a Peregrine chasing a Knot, 5 Grey Partridge in the Church Field, 76 Black-tailed Godwit, a Pomarine Skua blogging, 19 Little Auk N plus 1 in, a Great Spotted Woodpecker around Kew, 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Brambling, 7 Goldfinch S, 3 Lesser Redpoll (1 S, 2 Kew), 16 Reed Bunting (10 Church Field).

  Sunday 25th
 

Another cool day with the road being closed as the Humber deposited around 1-2 foot of sand and plenty of debris making it non-drivable, the biggest highlight today was a 1st for Spurn with a CATTLE EGRET landing in the Triangle before being chased by sheep and returning back north last seen flying towards Easington.

 

Elsewhere at sea 36 Red-throated Diver, a Black-throated Diver N, a Great Northern Diver S, 81 Shag S plus 2 on the sea, 12 Teal S, a Pintail, 2 Long-tailed Duck (1N, 1 on the sea), 81 Common Scoter, 3 Goldeneye in, a Peregrine hunting the Humber, 1000 Golden Plover and 200 Lapwing of the Crown, a Purple Sandpiper (New Scrape), 62 Black-tailed Godwit, a Pomarine Skua S, 66 Little Auk, 7 Stonechat, a grey looking Chiffchaff at the Crown, 6 Tree Sparrow S, a Brambling (Church Field), 17 Goldfinch S, 6 Twite and a Redpoll N, 7 Snow Bunting (5 N).

 

With more big tides and a large swell predicted the road may be closed for sometime, and an inspection will be made on Monday to assess the damage.

  Saturday 24th
 

A cold day with a strong SW wind with occasional rainy squalls, some light passage at sea but little of note.

 

Highlights today were a Great Northern Diver on the sea, 3 Shag S, 11 Wigeon S plus 11 in, 18 Teal S, 23 Common Scoter N plus 2 S, 7 Grey Plover S, 4 Lapwing in plus 3 (Triangle), 39 Knot, 5 Sanderling and 18 Dunlin S, a Purple Sandpiper (New Scrape), 19 Snipe (6 in), a Woodcock (Point), 222 Black-tailed Godwit (Tank Blocks area), 1000 Bar-tailed Godwit, 1 Arctic Skua N, a LBB Gull S, 14 Little Auk N, the Tawny Owl was picked up at Kew emaciated probably down to the poor weather of late, 3 Fieldfare, a Brambling (Church Field), 19 Siskin S plus 27 at the Crown, 1 Snow Bunting, 15 Reed Bunting.

 

North of the area another 79 Black-tailed Godwit were at Chalky Point, and a Kingfisher and a Med Gull were seen.

  Friday 23rd
 

Wintry showers in a strong northerly wind that pushed a large swell on the big tides trickled onto the road that was re-opened in the afternoon, but with tomorrow mornings big tide damage to the road is suspected.

 

On the bird front of note was 5 Cormorant and 12 Shag S, 3 Water Rail along the Canal area, 21 Lapwing S, a Purple Sandpiper (Canal Scrape), 61 Black-tailed Godwit (Tank Blocks), 2 Little Auk (1 N, 1 on the sea), 4 Stock Dove N, the Tawny Owl at Kew, a Kingfisher along the Canal, 4 Redwing, a Brambling Kew, 7 Siskin (Crown) and 3 Snow Bunting along the New Road.

   
  Thursday 22nd
 

A nice bright start before cloud rolled in with rain at dusk, some light passage in light S-SW winds.

 

On the move south were 28 Pink-footed Geese, 1 Eider, 15 Lapwing, 5 Black-tailed Godwit, 16 Skylark plus 9 came in, 41 Meadow Pipit, 4 Rock Pipit, 1 Pied Wagtail, 21 Goldfinch, 46 Siskin, 2 Linnet, 2 Snow Bunting and a Reed Bunting.

 

Notable sightings elsewhere included a Merlin (Narrows), 1 Water Rail, 14 Lapwing, a Woodcock, 84 Black-tailed Godwit (Tank Blocks), a Great Spotted Woodpecker (Kew), 4 Stonechat, 1 Fieldfare, a Chiffchaff (Kew), 4 Brambling (Kew), 7 Siskin (Crown), a Twite (Blue Bell), 1 Snow Bunting (Chalk Bank) and a Yellowhammer (Church Field).

   
  Wednesday 21st
 

Yet more grey skies with odd showers and fog that cleared by early morning, a small arrival of thrushes and some ducks on the move at sea were the main highlights.

 

At sea a Black-throated Diver N, 9 Shelduck, 205 Wigeon, 74 Teal, 2 Mallard, 4 Shoveler, a Goldeneye, 10 Knot and 5 Dunlin, 5 Snipe, 2 Black-tailed Godwit all S, and a Little Auk N. Elsewhere 5 Grey Partridge, 2 Woodcock, 47 Black-tailed Godwit (Tank Blocks), the Tawny Owl at Kew, 2 Skylark S, a Shore Lark S, 5 Stonechat, 140 Blackbird (8 S), 87 Fieldfare (75 S), 101 Redwing (79 S), a Chiffchaff at the Warren, 2 Brambling, 42 Siskin (40 S), 25 Snow Bunting S.

 

In Easington there were two Chiffchaffs at Willow Cottage both dull grey birds Abietinus/Tristis types.

   
  Tuesday 20th
 

More leaden skies with plenty of rain making birding unpleasant but a few highlights with 3 Teal S, 17 Eider, single Water Rail and Jack Snipe, 24 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Pomarine Skua (1 S, 1 Humber), 5 Little Gull S, 54 Kittiwake S, 3 Skylark S, 4 Stonechat, 64 Blackbird, 5 Fieldfare, 20 Redwing (3 in, 14 Point), 36 Siskin (21 in, 13 S), 3 Snow Bunting S and a Water Pipit on Clubley’s.

   
  Monday 19th
 

Another poor day weather wise with low grey clouds giving frequent showers in a strong SE wind with the main highlight today being a Richard’s Pipit on Clubley’s before flying of northwards.

 

Elsewhere 3 Teal (Canal Scrape), 6 Pintail S, 27 Eider (25 S), 680 Golden Plover, 30 Lapwing S, a Purple Sandpiper N, 4 Woodcock, 37 Black-tailed Godwit (Tank Blocks), the Tawny Owl at Kew, 21 Skylark S, 3 Stonechat, 98 Blackbird, 14 Fieldfare, 12 Redwing, 4 Brambling and 29 Siskin (25 S) being notable.

   
  Sunday 18th
 

An awful day all round with constant rain until mid-afternoon but remained dull all day.

 

Of note today were 4 Gannet N, 4 Wigeon, 5 Pintail, 4 Tufted Duck and a Purple Sandpiper all S, a Snipe came in, a Pomarine Skua was blogging around, 8 Kittiwake S, a Fieldfare (Point), 1 Goldfinch, a Redpoll (Beacon Lane) and a Snow Bunting on the beach at the Blue Bell.

  Saturday 17th
 

A typical November day with little of note, highlights today were a Little Egret S, 5 Wigeon out, 2 Scaup on the Humber, 38 Eider, yesterdays Purple Sandpiper was still on the Canal Scrape, a Tawny Owl and a Great Spotted Woodpecker in the Crown, 1 Meadow Pipit S, 4 Stonechat, 15 Jackdaw in the Triangle, 17 Goldfinch and 23 Siskin S, a Lapland Bunting in the Point dunes and 4 Snow Bunting S.

   
  Friday 16th
 

Another bright and sunny day with a light westerly wind very little of note with a lot of birds clearing out overnight.

 

Of note today were a Merlin (Warren), 5 Grey Partridge, 3 Water Rail, a Purple Sandpiper (Canal Scrape), 2 Woodcock, a Black-tailed Godwit (Humber), yesterdays Long-eared Owl at the Point, 2 Stonechat, 99 Blackbird, 2 Fieldfare came in, a Goldcrest (Kew), 2 Rook S, 6 Starling in, 3 Brambling, 18 Goldfinch and 13 Siskin S, 2 Lesser Redpoll (Beacon Lane), a Snow Bunting (Middle Camp).

   
  Thursday 15th
 

A bright sunny day with just some light movement and a handful of new arrivals with yesterdays Pallas’s Warbler still at the Warren.

 

Of note today was 6 Wigeon S, 4 Teal on Canal Scrape, 51 Eider N, 2 Goldeneye N, 3 Red-breasted Merganser (2 N, 1 S), 2 Water Rail, 3 Woodcock, 3 Little Auk (2 N, 1 on the sea), a Long-eared Owl at the Point, 14 Skylark S, 3 Meadow Pipit S, 5 Rock Pipit (4 S), 3 Stonechat, 108 Blackbird, 330 Starling plus 167 came in, 1 Brambling, 13 Goldfinch S, 4 Siskin went S, 3 came in and 14 were grounded, 1 Linnet S and a Snow Bunting at Middle Camp, with a late record of a Common Darter along the Canal.

  Wednesday 14th
 

A mainly sunny day with a moderate-light N-NE wind some light passage both at sea and overland with the highlight being a Pallas’s Warbler turning up at the Warren in the late morning.

 

Elsewhere notable sightings were 4 Teal S, 40 Common Scoter N, 1 Water Rail, 3 Woodcock, 22 Little Auk (14 S), a Skylark in and 1 S, 3 Stonechat, 231 Blackbird (11 S), 5 Fieldfare, 510 Starling, 2 Brambling, 3 Siskin and 2 Snow Bunting (New Road).

   
  Tuesday 13th
 

A good day for birds arriving in of the sea, after the heavy showers had abated, a few birds at sea making use of a moderate but increasing W-NNW wind.

 

Highlights today were 2 Black-throated Diver N, 3 Great Northern Diver (1 N, 2 S), a Great Crested Grebe N, a Red-necked Grebe N, a Storm Petrel N, 3 Shag S, 12 Wigeon (9 S), 9 Teal (5 S, 4 in), 4 Goldeneye S, 2 Merlin hunting Greenfinch at the Narrows, 14 Lapwing in, 19 Dunlin in, 2 Jack Snipe (Clubley’s), 6 Snipe in, 28 Woodcock in plus 15 grounded birds, 85 Little Auk all over the place!

 

A Great Spotted Woodpecker (Kew), 3 Rock Pipit S, 3 Stonechat, 205 Blackbird in plus 140 grounded birds, 15 Fieldfare (11 in), 14 Redwing (6 in), 442 Starling (292 in), 10 Chaffinch S, 3 Brambling, 8 Goldfinch S, 23 Siskin in plus 6 S and 4 at the Crown, a Snow Bunting in and a freshly dead Grey Phalarope was at Middle Camp.

   
  Monday 12th
 

Sea watch 07.30 – 11.00 A sunny but cold day in the fresh north-westerly winds and most activity was again over the sea.

 

9 Red-throated Diver, 3 Black-throated Diver N, 1 Great North Diver out over the Triangle, 6 Gannet, 4 Cormorant, 1 Shag, 4 Wigeon, 6 Mallard, 4 Eider, 25 Common Scoter, 1 Goldeneye, 1 Red-breasted Merganser, 1 Purple Sandpiper, 2 Pomarine Skua, 1 Mediterranean Gull, 1 Guillemot, 3 Razorbill, 72 Little Auk.

 

Other birds of note were; 12 Little Grebe, 2 Merlin, 4 Lapwing, 1 Jack Snipe, 3 Woodcock, 3 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 11 Skylark in, 3 Rock Pipit, 2 Stonechat, 3 Fieldfare, 2 Redwing, 44 Siskin (30 in), 1 Redpoll, 6 Snow Bunting.

Sea watch 07.00 – 16.00 Strong northerly winds all day with squally showers moving through and feeling very cold, most activity was over the sea; 14 Red-throated Diver, 1 Black-throated Diver N, 2 Great Northern Diver N, 2 Storm Petrel, 12 Gannet, 3 Brent Geese S, 5 Wigeon, 7 Teal, 1 Scaup, 2 Eider, 55 Common Scoter, 1 Velvet Scoter, 7 Goldeneye, 1 Red-breasted Merganser, 2 Woodcock in, 1 Black-tailed Godwit in, 15 Pomarine Skua, 7 Arctic Skua, 2 Bonxie, 8 Auk sp., 3 Guillemot, 2 Razorbill, 322 Little Auk (50 N, 268 S and 4 in), 8 Short-eared Owl in, 64 Blackbird in, 3 Fieldfare in, 5 Redwing in, 103 Starling in, 1 Brambling in and 12 Siskin in.

 

Other birds of note included the 2 Water Pipits still on the Old Scrape, 1 Little Egret, 3 Jack Snipe on Clubley’s, 5 Woodcock, 4 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Barn Owl, 5 Stonechat, 1 Chiffchaff, 6 Brambling.

 

North of the area were 2 Purple Sandpipers at Beacon Ponds.

   
  Saturday 10th
 

Sea-watch 07.00 – 12.00, 13.30 – 14.30. A few new migrants in and another good morning over the sea, the highlight of the day was 2 Water Pipits in the Clubley’s Field/ Borrow Pit area for most of the afternoon, other migrants were 3 Water Rail, 16 Woodcock, 4 Stonechat, 98 Blackbird, 5 Fieldfare, 3 Song Thrush, 74 Redwing, 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Goldcrest, 4 Chaffinch, 2+ Snow Bunting.

 

Birds moving south included; 1 Wigeon + 21 in, 12 Teal + 3 N, 3 Mallard + 3 N, 1 Tufted Duck N, 3 Eider, 1 Long-tailed Duck + 2 N, 34 Common Scoter + 38 N, 2 Red-breasted Merganser, 2 Goosander + 1 N, 2 Rock Pipit, 1 Rook in, 17 Tree Sparrow, 1 Greenfinch, 8 Goldfinch, 1 Siskin + 4 in, 11 Linnet and 2 Snow Bunting.

 

Over the sea were; 20 Red-throated Diver, 4 Great Northern Diver, 1 Leach’s Petrel, 18 Gannet, 2 Shag, 3 Pomarine Skua S, 2 Arctic Skua, 1 Glaucous Gull, 60 Kittiwake, 7 Guillemot, 534 Little Auk, 5 Puffin. Other birds of note included; 1 Little Egret, 1 Peregrine which caught and killed a Little Auk over the sea, 4 Purple Sandpiper, 1 Barn Owl.

   
  Friday 9th
 

Over night a 1.2 metre surge put sand on the road between posts 18 and 31 and damaged 2 sections of the road, therefore shutting the road which will be closed for at least a couple of weeks.

 

Seawatch 07.30 – 12.20, 13.05 – 16.25. Most activity was over the sea in a force 5-6 NW wind.

 

5 Red-throated Diver, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Storm Petrel S at 14.25, 56 Gannet, 120 Pink-footed Geese, 11 Teal, 1 Eider, 18 Common Scoter, 2 Velvet Scoter N, 1 Red-breasted Merganser, 3 Goldeneye, a Grey Phalarope N at 11.10, 22 Pomarine Skua S (mostly morning), 2 Bonxie, 504 Kittiwake, 227 Little Auk. The only other birds of note were 2 Stonechat, 1 Brambling, 23 Siskin and a Snow Bunting.

   
  Thursday 8th
 

Sea watches 07.15 – 08.15, 11.35 – 12.35, 14.00 – 1445

 

A fairly quiet day all round with just some light passage until the wind swung from W – NW and increased in strength touching force 6 with some heavy showers.

 

Highlights today were 9 Whooper Swan S, 3 Teal (Canal Scrape), 1 Water Rail, 3 Snipe, a Woodcock, a 1st winter Glaucous Gull S, 96 Wood Pigeon S, 2 Skylark S, 4 Rock Pipit S, 2 Stonechat (Warren), 3 House Sparrow, 13 Tree Sparrow, 29 Chaffinch all S, 2 Brambling, 22 Greenfinch, 16 Goldfinch, 106 Siskin and 6 Linnet S.

   
  Wednesday 7th
 

Sea watch 07.20 – 14.20

 

A day of strong WNW winds all day with variable cloud cover with the odd sunny spell, a few birds at sea but little elsewhere. At sea 24 Red-throated Diver, a Manx Shearwater S, 75 Gannet, 6 Whooper Swan S including 4 juveniles, 209 Pink-footed Geese S, single Pintail, Tufted Duck and Long-tailed Duck S, 2 Velvet Scoter N, a Merlin came in, 11 Pomarine Skua S, 3 Bonxie S, 3 Little Auk N and 3 Blackbird came in.

 

Elsewhere of note were a Peregrine over the Humber, single Jack Snipe and Woodcock (Point), a Swallow S, 5 Stonechat, 13 Chaffinch (6 S), 4 Brambling (1 S, 1 Warren, 2 Kew), 37 Siskin S and 5 Snow Bunting N.

Sea watch 07.20 – 15.30

 

A cool day with a strong NW wind all day but rather pleasant in the sunshine, sea watching brought the main interest with highlights being 3 Great Northern Diver S, a Manx Shearwater N, 210 Pink-footed Geese S, 2 Scaup S, a Long-tailed Duck blogging, 357 Common Scoter (329 S), 3 Velvet Scoter N, a female/imm SURF SCOTER S at 11.35, a Peregrine in, a Purple Sandpiper S, 1 Woodcock in, 43 Pomarine Skua S, 3 Bonxie S, a 1st winter Glaucous Gull S, 454 Kittiwake S, 1 Razorbill S, 14 Little Auk (12 N, 2 S), 5 Fieldfare in, elsewhere birds of note were 1 Water Rail, a Jack Snipe (Clubley’s), 10 Fieldfare, the Yellow-browed Warbler still in the Crown, 2 Brambling, 3 Goldfinch and 9 Siskin S plus 12 in.

 

Of interest some pictures of the Whites Thrush from Thorngumbald which unfortunately flew into a window on the 20th October. This location is approximately 20 miles west of Spurn.

  Monday 5th
 

Sea watch 07.30 – 16.15. Overcast and cold with a little sunshine in the afternoon and a few spot of rain, wind was SW3-4 backing NW and gaining to 5. A day of passage, mainly birds coming in/off the sea but also some southerly passage. The highlight was a Great White Egret which came in/off the sea and continued NW, other birds coming in/off the sea were; 13 Grey Plover + 3 S, 33 Lapwing, 12 Knot + 30 S, 5 Dunlin + 122 S, 1 Common Snipe, 17 Woodcock, 3 Bar-tailed Godwit + 2 S, 1 Curlew + 2 S, 2 Lesser B.B.Gull + 2 S, 1 Skylark, 1 Rock Pipit, 31 Blackbird, 72 Fieldfare, 102 Redwing, 180 Starling.

 

Birds moving south were; 16 Whooper Swan, 85 Wigeon, 93 Teal, 6 Mallard, 77 Common Scoter + 77 N, 3 Velvet Scoter + 9 N, 7 Goldeneye, 1 Goosander out, 2 Golden Plover, 2 Skylark, 4 Meadow Pipit, 7 Rock Pipit, 56 Fieldfare, 92 Redwing, 7 Chaffinch, 57 Greenfinch, 2 Goldfinch, 580 Siskin, 1 Redpoll, 1 Snow Bunting. Seabirds included; 29 Red-throated Diver, 8 Gannet, 77 Herring Gull, 27 Auk sp., 4 Guillemot, 9 Razorbill, 11 Little Auk (6 S, 4 N, 1 was picked up at the Lighthouse and released later.

 

Other birds of note were; 1 Water Rail, 1 Jack Snipe, 10 Woodcock, 2 Stonechat, 110 Blackbird, 5 Song Thrush, 1 Blackcap, the Yellow-browed Warbler still at the Crown, 3 Chaffinch, 3 Brambling, the Mealy Redpoll still on Beacon Lane.

  Sunday 4th
 

Sea watch 07.00 – 15.30. A lovely warm sunny day with a light NW- W wind. A few new grounded migrants and another good day over the sea.

 

Seabirds seen included; 33 Red-throated Diver, 2 Sooty Shearwater, 19 Gannet, 2 Cormorant, 2 Shag, 26 Pomarine Skua south, 1 Bonxie north, 1 Mediterranean Gull, 3 Little Gull, 15 Kittiwake, 30 Guillemot, 10 Razorbill, 16 Little Auk north. Birds moving south were; 9 Whooper Swan, 510 Pink-footed Geese, 15 Wigeon + 40 in, 4 Teal in, 2 Mallard, 1 Scaup, 2 Eider, 232 Common Scoter +282 N, 4 Velvet Scoter N, 5 Goldeneye +14 N, 1 Red-breasted Merganser, 3 Common Snipe, 2 Wood Lark 1 south + 1 U-turned back north, 5 Skylark, 9 Meadow Pipit, 1720 Starling in/off the sea, 3 Brambling, 21 Greenfinch, 5 Goldfinch, 40 Siskin, 3 Linnet.

 

Other birds of note were; 5 Water Rail, 1 Woodcock, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 3 Rock Pipit, a Bluethroat was reported late afternoon by a day visitor at Wire Dump, 4 Stonechat, 110 Blackbird, 22 Fieldfare, 20 Redwing, 2 Mistle Thrush, 1 Blackcap, 1 Yellow-browed Warbler at the Crown, 1 Chiffchaff at Cliff Farm, 2 Goldcrest, 1400 Starling, 12 Chaffinch, 7 Brambling, 21 Greenfinch, 6 Siskin, 1 Mealy Redpoll still on Beacon Lane, a pair of Bullfinch at the Warren, 1 Lapland Bunting in Clubley’s, 3 Snow Bunting and 1 Yellowhammer. A Little Bunting found on Beacon Lane early morning showed well on and off for most of the day. In the moth traps were 1 Dark Sword Grass and 1 Silver Y.

Narrows watch 07.00 – 09.30 Sea watch 10.00 – 17.00 A clear day with occasional cloud cover, light NW wind veered N then NE by late afternoon. The best activity was over the sea, where a total of 108 Pomarine Skuas flew south, starting at 11.20 and peaking between 14.00 and 15.00. Other seabirds seen included; 50 Red-throated Diver, 1 Great Northern Diver, 3 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Sooty Shearwater, 2 Manx Shearwater, 32 Gannet, 37 Cormorant, 1 Shag, 1 Bonxie, 233 Kittiwake, 1 Commic Tern, 24 Guillemot, 4 Razorbill, 28 Little Auk.

 

Birds moving south were; 15 Whooper Swan, 82 Pink-footed Geese, 3 Brent Geese, 5 Shelduck + 15 in, 4 Wigeon, 7 Teal, 13 Mallard in, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Scaup, 14 Eider, 96 Common Scoter, 2 Velvet Scoter + 2 north, 10 Goldeneye + 3 north, 1 Oystercatcher, 2 Lapwing, 2 Purple Sandpiper N, 1 Long-eared Owl in and dropped into Crown car park, 2 Short-eared Owl in/off, 45 Skylark, 13 Meadow Pipit, 7 Rook, 1124 Starling in/off, 4 Tree Sparrow, 6 Chaffinch, 60 Greenfinch, 26 Goldfinch, 156 Siskin, 3 Linnet, 5 Redpoll, 1 Snow Bunting.

 

Other birds of note included; 1 Little Egret, 2 Jack Snipe, 3 Woodcock, 2 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Short-eared Owl, 1 House Martin, 3 Rock Pipit, 1 Waxwing at the Point, 4 Stonechat, 215 Blackbird, 32 Fieldfare, 5 Song Thrush, 37 Redwing, 1 Blackcap, 1 Yellow-browed Warbler at the Crown, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Goldcrest, 3 Brambling, 1 Mealy Redpoll at the south end of Beacon Lane, 1 Lapland Bunting over the Triangle, 31 Snow Bunting U-turned back north over the Triangle. Birds north of the area included a Sandwich Tern and a Richard’s Pipit at Beacon Ponds, a Waxwing and Yellow-browed Warbler in Easington. In the moth trap were two Silver Y’s and a Delicate.

Narrows watch 07.15 – 09.30, 12.30 – 14.30 Sea watch 08.25 – 10.00, 13.45 – 15.45. A cloudy start leaving sunny periods later on with a light WNW – NW wind.

 

Some light passage in the morning and a good arrival of thrushes in the afternoon. Birds moving south included; 216 Pink-footed Geese, 6 Wigeon + 70 in, 13 Teal, 97 Common Scoter, 1 Velvet Scoter, 4 Goldeneye + 6 N, 2 Red-breasted Merganser, 25 Skylark, 7 Meadow Pipit, 7 Rock Pipit, 2 Jackdaw, 24 Rook, 137 Tree Sparrow, 8 Chaffinch, 60 Greenfinch, 3 Goldfinch, 189 Siskin, 6 Linnet, 8 Twite U-turned, 7 Redpoll, 2 Reed Bunting.

 

Birds coming in/off in the afternoon were; 1 Common Snipe, 1 Woodcock, 10 Skylark, 1450 Blackbird, 1000 Fieldfare, 500 Redwing, 556 Starling, 1 Siskin. Other birds of note included; 8 Red-throated Diver, 6 Gannet, 3 Shag, 1 Little Egret, 2 Pintail, 1 Scaup, 2 Water Rail, 2 Woodcock, 40 Guillemot, 2 Little Auk, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Waxwing at the Warren moved off north, 7 Stonechat, 10 Song Thrush, 2 Blackcap, 1 Chiffchaff, 2 Goldcrest, 1 Jay U-turned over the Triangle, 6 Brambling, 1 Bullfinch in the Kew area and 3 Yellowhammer.

A Narrows watch 07.40 – 09.10 Warren/Sea watch 09.45 – 13.00. bright day with occasional cloud cover, fresh SW backing NW in the afternoon. At sea were; 21 Red-throated Diver, 1 Black-throated Diver N, 16 Gannet, 1 Cormorant, 2 Shag, 3 Pomarine Skua S, 3 Arctic Tern, 3 Auk sp., 55 Guillemot N, 1 Razorbill N, 3 Little Auk (2 N, 1 S).

 

Birds moving south included; 4 Wigeon, 25 Common Scoter N, 3 Goldeneye, 2 Goosander in, 5 Lapwing, 1 Stock Dover, 15 Wood Pigeon, 10 Skylark + 3 in, 2 House Martin, 8 Meadow Pipit, 4 Rock Pipit, 5 Jackdaw, 72 Rook, 9 Starling, 6 House Sparrow, 22 Tree Sparrow, 9 Chaffinch, 89 Greenfinch, 17 Goldfinch, 239 Siskin + 9 in, 8 Linnet, 6 Twite, 6 Redpoll, 1 Lapland Bunting, 1 Reed Bunting.

 

Other birds of note included; 1 Red-breasted Merganser, 1 Peregrine in/ off the sea, 1 Water Rail, 61 Lapwing, 1 Purple Sandpiper, 1 Woodcock, 1 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Tawny Owl, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Swallow, 1 Grey Wagtail, 1 Black Redstart, 8 Stonechat, 6 Fieldfare, 56 Redwing, 1 Chiffchaff, 4 Goldcrest, 13 Chaffinch, 1 Brambling, 1 Yellowhammer. 1 Ruff and 4 Black-tailed Godwit were on Long Bank.
