Over the sea were 2 Wigeon, 7 Teal, 3 Common Scoter, 4 Goosander, 40 Red-throated Diver, 4 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Gannet, 2 Cormorant, 3 Guillemot and 8 Razorbill.

Other birds seen included the Egyptian Goose, 62 Sanderling, 11 Song Thrush, 4 Redwing, 2 Goldcrest, 3 Long-tailed Tit, 1 Linnet and 1 Snow Bunting.

Sea-watch 08.20-09.30. Cloudy to start with sunny spells forming from late morning, a force 3-2 WNW wind.

Over the sea were 35 Red-throated Diver, 15 auk sp, 2 Guillemot and a Razorbill. The Egyptian Goose was still in the Triangle, 5 Skylark flew S and there were 7 Song Thrush and 2 Goldcrest present.

Sea-watch 07.30-09.45. Cloudy all day with rain mid-afternoon and a force 2 W wind.

The highlight was a Moorhen in the Triangle – the first since 26th October last year!

Over the sea were 3 Pink-footed Geese S, 36 Brent Geese out east, 2 Shelduck, 6 Eider, 6 Common Scoter, 2 Goldeneye, 155 Red-throated Diver, 3 Gannet, 4 Cormorant , 7 Razorbill, 1 Skylark in off.

Other birds seen included the Egyptian Goose in the Triangle, 2 Pale-bellied Brent Geese on the Humber, 2 Woodcock, 9 Song Thrush, 1 Redwing, 4 Linnet and 1 Snow Bunting.

Sea-watch 07.30 - 10.15. another bright and sunny spring-like day with a force 1-2 W-SW wind.

The weekend was dominated by a work weekend and we would like to say thank you to all those that took part. Clearing out Brown-tail moth webs was the main work done and we will be having a few more weekends doing this before the spring gets properly under way, so if you want to take part and make birding at Spurn a more pleasurable experience then come along and join in.

Over the sea were 235 Pink-footed Geese N, 1 Shelduck, 1 Pintail, 6 Eider, 1 Goldeneye, 2 Goosander, 233 Red-throated Diver, a Red-necked Grebe N, 1 Gannet, 2 Cormorant, 243 Black-headed Gull and 4 Razorbill.

Other birds seen included the Egyptian Goose, a Greylag Goose, 5 Teal, 1 Goldeneye, 1 Snipe, 3 Woodcock, 1 Short-eared Owl, 13 Skylark S and 3 in, 1 Rock Pipit, 1 Goldcrest, the first 9 Long-tailed Tits of the year, 5 Linnets and the first Peacock butterfly of the year.

Sea-watch 07.30-09.30, 15.00-16.30. Sunny spells with a force 2-3 WNW wind.

Only light but spring visible migration got under way, 1106 Pink-footed Geese flew N-NW, 4 Stock Dove S, 30 Skylark S and 5 in off, 4 Jackdaw, 1 Rook, 6 Carrion Crow, 120 Starling and 4 Linnet all S and a Snow Bunting N.

Over the sea were 4 Common Scoter, 204 Red-throated Diver, 6 Gannet, 9 Cormorant and 3 Razorbill. Other birds seen included the Egyptian Goose, 1 Greylag Goose, 2 Gadwall, 3 Teal, 1 Goldeneye, 1 Woodcock, 3 Meadow Pipit and a Yellowhammer.

North of the area still 7 Whooper Swans at Long Bank; 6 Pochard, 4 Scaup, 4 Goldeneye, 1 Red-breasted Merganser and 2 Greenshank at Beacon Ponds.

Sea-watch 07.45-10.15. Bright and sunny with a force 4 WNW wind.

Over the sea were 1 Greylag Goose, 120 Pink-footed Geese, 1 Shelduck, 4 Wigeon, 1 Eider, 1 Common Scoter, 140 Red-throated Diver, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 7 Cormorant, 21 Lapwing, 133 Black-headed Gull, 243 Herring Gull, 2 Guillemot. Also 7 Skylark came in off and 1 flew S.

Other birds seen included the Egyptian Goose, 1 Woodcock, 1 Meadow Pipit, 1 Mistle Thrush, 1 Goldcrest and 120 Starling.

Sea-watch – 07.30-09.15. Bright and sunny with a force 4-5 W wind.

Over the sea were the first 3 Shovelers of the year, 1 Common Scoter, 31 Red-throated Diver, 2 Gannet, 4 Cormorant, and 2 Razorbill.

A few more birds present on the land included the Egyptian Goose, 1 Greylag Goose, 1 Goldenye, 2 Grey Partridge, 1 Merlin, 1 Water Rail, 1 Snipe, 1 Woodcock, 1 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Stonechat, 5 Song Thrush, 1 Mistle Thrush and 1 Goldcrest.

North of the area 7 Whooper Swan north of Long Bank and at Beacon Ponds were 7 Pochard, 4 Scaup and 4 Goldeneye.

A very quiet few days, the Egyptian Goose was in the Triangle on 20th, Woodcocks were seen singly on 20th and 21st, 63 Pink-footed Geese flew N on 20th and 23 N on 21st, and single Skylarks came in off on 20th and 21st.

Sea-watch 07.50-09.45. Bright and sunny all day with a force 3 W wind.

Over the sea were 2 Greylag Geese, 2 Eider, 1 Common Scoter, 22 Red-throated Diver, 1 Fulmar, 15 Gannet, 5 Cormorant, 968 Herring Gull, 1 Kittiwake and 55 auk sp.

Other birds seen included the Egyptian Goose, a Skylark and a Meadow Pipit.

North of the area, still 7 Whooper Swans at Long Bank and at Beacon Ponds 140 Wigeon, 1 Pochard, 4 Scaup and 7 Goldeneye.

Sea-watch 07.45-10.30, 12.45-16.30. Lengthy sunny spells with some heavy showers moving through in a stiff force 4-5 W wind.

Herring Gulls were moving again in good numbers but were going both ways and a conservative 3200 were logged, also over the sea, the first Black-throated Diver of the year flew N as did a Slavonian Grebe and 740 Pink-footed Geese, 2 Greylag Geese, 2 Wigeon, 10 Teal, 2 Mallard, 1 Scaup, 8 Eider, 31 Common Scoter, 1 Red-breasted Merganser, 194 Red-throated Diver, 1 Fulmar, 23 Gannet, 6 Cormorant, 1 Oystercatcher, 54 Lapwing, 1 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Mediterranean Gull, 1 Little Gull, 217 Black-headed Gull, 3 Lesser B.B.Gull, 68 auk sp and 9 Razorbill.

Other birds included 3 Woodcock, 3 Song Thrush and a Redwing.

Sea-watch 07.45-11.00, 13.40-15.10. A much nicer spring-like sunny day which clouded over late afternoon, a force 1 W wind.

A skein of c80 White-fronted Geese flew S, also moving over the sea were 1 Wigeon, 3 Eider, 41 Common Scoter, 2 Goosander, 173 Red-throated Diver, 3 Great Crested Grebe, 10 Cormorant, 97 Black-headed Gull, 1888 Herring Gull N and 246 S, a 2nd winter Glaucous Gull N, 2 auk sp and 1 Razorbill.

Other birds seen included the Egyptian Goose in the Triangle again, a Woodcock, 9 Skylark flew S, 4 Song Thrush and the first Jackdaw of the year bang on time.

Sea-watch 07.45-09.45. Mainly cloudy with some lengthy showers in the afternoon, a force 3 W wind.

Over the sea were 1 Shelduck, 26 Red-throated Diver, 10 Cormorant, 307 Herring Gull. The only other birds seen were a Woodcock, 5 Song Thrush and 4 Goldfinch.

Sea-watch 07.45-10.00. Cloudy all day with a few light showers and a gusty force 3-5 NW wind.

Over the sea were 2 Eider, 3 Common Scoter, 54 Red-throated Diver, 1 Great Northern Diver, 8 Gannet, 2 Cormorant, 1 Shag, 1 Kittiwake, 6 auk sp, 1 Razorbill.

Other birds seen included 5 Teal, 41 Sanderling, 3 Woodcock, 1 Skylark in, 1 Meadow Pipit in, 2 Fieldfare, 3 Song Thrush.

North of the area there were 7 Whooper Swan north of Long Bank, 820 Dark-bellied and 12 Pale-bellied Brent Geese on the new Kilnsea Wetlands, 4 Scaup and 5 Goldeneye on Beacon Ponds.

Sea-watch 07.45-09.30, 14.30-16.00. Cloudy all day with a force 2 NW wind.

Over the sea were 3 Eider, 3 Common Scoter, 8 Goosander, 57 Red-throated Diver, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 17 Gannet, 4 Cormorant, 1 Mediterranean Gull, 9 auk sp and 1 Razorbill.

Other birds seen included the Egyptian Goose still in the Triangle, 4 Woodcock, 1 Stonechat, 1 Fieldfare and 1 Redwing.

Sea-watch 08.00-10.30. Some sunny spells to start with clouding over and some light showers in the afternoon, an increasing 2-5 WNW –NW wind but feeling warmer than of late.

Over the sea were a Greylag Goose, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Eider, 194 Red-throated Diver, 1 Great Northern Diver, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Gannet, 1 Cormorant, 3 auk sp, 3 Guillemot and 4 Razorbill.

Other birds seen included the Egyptian Goose in the Triangle, 5 Woodcock, 1 Meadow Pipit, 1 Stonechat, 4 Fieldfare, 4 Song Thrush.

North of the area there 7 Whooper Swan, 750 Brent Geese north of Long Bank; 1 Pochard, 2 Tufted Duck, 4 Scaup, 1 Red-breasted Merganser and 1 Goosander.

Sea-watch 08.00-10.45, 14.15-15.00. Cloudy all day with a light SE wind.

A good day over the sea saw the third species recorded this year that we failed to get last year when a Slavonian Grebe was on the sea briefly before flying off south, the winter record of Red-throated Diver was broken again when 481 were counted. Also 2 Great Northern Divers were seen, as were 2 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Goldeneye, 5 Gannet, 3 auk sp and 12 Razorbill.

Other birds seen included the Egyptian Goose, 90 Wigeon, 4 Teal, 2 Purple Sandpiper, 2 Snipe, 10 Woodcock, 68 Black-tailed Godwit, 30 Meadow Pipit in the Triangle, 1 Stonechat, 56 Fieldfare, 3 Song Thrush, 1 Redwing, 4 redpoll sp whizzing about which were probably Mealy’s.

Sea-watch 07.45-11.00. Sunny spells to start, clouding over by late afternoon, a force 2-1 SSW-SW wind.

A good day for ringing with 3 Common Gulls trapped (the first for several years) and a good wader ringing session at Beacon Ponds in the evening totaled 4 Knot, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit, 3 Redshank and 20 Dunlin, with a Swedish controlled Dunlin also controlled. Also a Blackbird, 7 Fieldfare and a Redwing trapped at Kew.

Over the sea were 11 Pink-footed Geese, 6 Common Scoter, 161 Red-throated Diver, 2 Cormorant, 161 Black-headed Gull, 113 Herring Gull, 2 auk sp, 1 Guillemot and 2 Razorbill.

Other birds seen included the Egyptian Goose still in the Triangle, 18 Lapwing, 6 Woodcock, 35 Black-tailed Godwit, 12 Meadow Pipit including 9 south; 1 Stonechat, 35 Fieldfare, 4 Song Thrush and 2 Redwing.

North of the area 7 Whooper Swan were north of Long Bank, while at Beacon Ponds were 4 Pochard, 2 Tufted Duck, 4 Scaup, 4 Goldeneye, 1 Red-breasted Merganser, 1 Goosander and a Greenshank.

Sea-watch 07.45-10.00, 14.00-15.00. 2 inches of snow fell during the night, remained cloudy all day and cold in a force 2-3 SSE wind.

Over the sea were 9 Brent Geese, 2 Shelduck, 4 Eider, 1 Common Scoter, 191 Red-throated Diver, 3 Gannet, 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Curlew, 4 auk sp, 1 Guillemot, 5 Razorbill.

Other birds present included the Egyptian Goose in the Triangle, 10 Woodcock, 34 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Rock Pipit, 1 Stonechat, 16 Fieldfare, 4 Song Thrush and 3 Redwing.

7 Whooper Swans were at Long Bank and a Purple Sandpiper was at Beacon Ponds.

Sea-watch 08.30-10.30. Cloudy with snow late afternoon, a cold force 1-2 SSE wind.

Over the sea were 2 Goldeneye, 33 Red-throated Diver, 1 Gannet and a Little Gull.

Other birds seen included the Egyptian Goose in the Triangle, 6 Woodcock, a Stonechat, 4 Fieldfare and 2 Redwing.

8 Whooper Swans were north of Long Bank and 2 Gadwall and 4 Goldeneye at Beacon Ponds.

Sea-watch 08.30-10.30, cloudy all day in a cold force 2 E wind.

A quieter day, the Egyptian Goose was still present and other birds seen included 2 Goldeneye, 37 Red-throated Diver, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Snipe, 15 Woodcock, 1 Stonechat, 4 Fieldfare and a Redwing.

8 Whooper Swans were still north of Long Bank.

Sea-watch 08.00-10.30. Low cloud and fog with a force 1-2 S wind.

The Egyptian Goose remains in the Triangle and there was some movement offshore, including a very good wader passage for the time of year and can presume it was related to the cold weather: 4 Teal, 14 Scaup, 4 Eider, 2 Goldeneye, 1 Goosander, 25 Red-throated Diver, 2 Cormorant, 53 Oystercatcher, 27 Golden Plover, 3 Grey Plover, 173 Knot, 47 Dunlin, 8 Bar-tailed Godwit, 1 third-yr Glaucous Gull , 2 Kittiwake, 1 Guillemot.

Other birds seen included 21 Woodcock, 8 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Meadow Pipit, 1 Stonechat, 7 Fieldfare, 4 Song Thrush and 5 Redwing.

North of the area there was a Waxwing at Easington church and a Pochard and 4 Scaup were on Beacon Ponds.

Sea-watch 08.00-08.50. Fog for most of the day only clearing a very little in the light S wind.

The Egyptian Goose was around Southfield Farm or the Borrow Pit most of the day, 3 Whooper Swan flew south over the Triangle, while present were 1 Merlin, 1 Water Rail, 1 Jack Snipe, 3 Snipe, 18 Woodcock, 1 Stonechat, 4 Fieldfare, 3 Song Thrush and 2 Redwing.

North of the area, the 7 Whooper Swans were still present while there were 192 Wigeon, 2 Pochard, 3 Goldeneye and a Red-breasted Merganser at Beacon Ponds.

Sea-watch 08.00-10.00, 14.15-16.00. Heavy overnight snow about 2 inches deposited and drifted deeper, a bright sunny start but freezing fog rolling in and a light force 1 SSE wind.

The Egyptian Goose spent the day on the Borrow Pit, there were still 26 Woodcock in the area, 8 Skylark came in off the sea and still present were a Stonechat, 3 Fieldfare, 3 Song Thrush and a Redwing.

Over the sea were 2 Wigeon, 14 Teal, 1 Tufted Duck, 3 Goldeneye, 28 Red-throated Diver, 1 Cormorant, 2 ad Mediterranean Gull , 2 Little Gull, a 3rd yr Glaucous Gull, and 3 Razorbill.

The 7 Whooper Swans were still at Long Bank and 3 Scaup and 4 Goldeneye were on Beacon Ponds.

Sea-watch 07.30-10.30, 13.50-15.50. A cold raw day that started bright but full cloud cover by early afternoon, a force 2-5 SSE –S wind.

A very impressive day which started with Spurn’s 9th record of Egyptian Goose which was belatedly reported from ABP staff as being on the Parade Ground at the Point yesterday afternoon, it was there briefly in the morning before flying off north and spent most of the day in the Triangle. Also there was record influx (for the time of year) of Woodcocks during the afternoon when at least 40 birds were counted in the recording area and another 9 off Beacon Lane. Other migrants included a Coot on the Humber by the jetty at the Point, 2 Water Rail, 1 Jack Snipe, 3 Snipe, 1 Stonechat, 9 Fieldfare, 7 Song Thrush, 2 Redwing and 5 Linnet.

There was a reasonable passage of ducks over the sea including 1 Shelduck, 18 Wigeon, 16 Teal, 4 Tufted Duck, 17 Scaup, 2 Common Scoter, 1 Velvet Scoter, 5 Goldeneye, also 52 Red-throated Diver, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 79 Cormorant, 1 Shag, 3 Golden Plover in, 2 Sanderling in, 400 Herring Gull S, 25 Great B.B.Gull S, 36 auk sp, 30 Guillemot and 1 Razorbill.

North of the area there were 7 Whooper and 17 Mute Swans, 96 Wigeon, 1 Tufted Duck, 3 Scaup, 5 Goldeneye and a Greenshank at Beacon Ponds.

Sea-watch 08.00-10.00. A light covering of snow and feeling very cold with blue skies and a light N wind.

The sea proved to be quiet with 2 Wigeon, 1 Goldeneye, 61 Red-throated Diver, 11 Cormorant and 2 Shag. Birds present in the recording area included 6 Gadwall, 2 Teal, 2 Grey Partridge, 1 Peregrine, 13 Lapwing, 2 Jack Snipe, 5 Snipe, 1 Woodcock, a Stock Dove, 2 Fieldfare, 1 Redwing and 11 Reed Bunting.

North of the area there were 8 Whooper Swan and 12 Pale-bellied Brent Geese north of Long Bank, while at Beacon Ponds there were 90 Wigeon, 3 Scaup, 6 Goldeneye, 1 Red-breasted Merganser, while in Kilnsea a Little Owl was seen.

Sea-watch 08.0-10.00. Frosty overnight and a light dusting of snow, frequent light snow showers throughout the day and a force 2-3 E wind.

The cold weather on the Continent is obviously having some effect as 10 Woodcock were counted today including 1 seen coming in off the sea, other migrants included 2 Jack Snipe, 3 Snipe, 2 Fieldfare, 7 Song Thrush, 8 Redwing, a Bullfinch and 15 Yellowhammer.

The highlight was a Red-necked Grebe on the Humber off Chalk Bank while other birds seen included 2 Gadwall, 13 Teal, 1 Eider, 2 Common Scoter, 97 Red-throated Diver, 1 Little Grebe, 6 Cormorant, 2 Shag, 1 Peregrine, 1 Merlin, 80 Sanderling, 42 Herring Gull S, 1 Kittiwake, 17 aus sp, 5 Guillemot.

Sea-watch 07.45-10.30. Bright and sunny with cloud building in the afternoon, a cold force 3 E wind.

Over the sea were 5 Eider, 135 Red-throated Diver, 2 Fulmar, 1 Gannet, 2 Cormorant, 5 Kittiwake, 37 auk sp, 2 Guillemot and 4 Razorbill.

Other birds present included 1 Gadwall, 7 Teal, 36 Sanderling, 2 Jack Snipe, 1 Common Snipe, 1 Woodcock, 5 Fieldfare, 2 Song Thrush and 14 Redwing.

Whooper Swans had increased to 8 at Long Bank.
