April 2016 Sightings

30th April 2016 - Saturday

A better day with long periods of warm sunshine and a force 2-3 NW-W wind.
Migration watch: 0630-1400.
A change in the weather did the trick with more birds on the move though still little change in grounded migrants.
Firstly the highlights with Spurns 9th Nuthatch trapped at Kew, the 6th Raven which came south with a flock of Carrion Crows and then returned north, the 5th Mandarin, a male which flew out of the triangle and went up the Humber and 2 Hooded Crow south past the warren.
Migrant numbers were still low with 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Cuckoo, 1 Redstart,2 Ring Ouzel, 2 Sedge Warbler, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Chiffchaff and 5 Willow Warbler were all reported.
A good total of 72 Flava wagtail flew south today while other bits on the move were 6 Meadow Pipit in off, 2 Tree Pipit, 3 Alba Wagtail, 7 Sand Martin, 6 Swallow, 6 House Martin, 1 wheatear north, 36 Carrion Crow, 18 Rook, 8 Jackdaw, 131 Linnet, 15 Chaffinch, 30 Goldfinch.
Other bits of interest were 1 Black Brant on the Humber with 1 pale bellied Brent and 493 dark bellied Brent, 582 Grey Plover, 1 Spotted Redshank, 1 Greenshank, 1250 Dunlin, 39 Little Tern and 2 Short eared Owl.

28th April 2016 - Thursday

A bright and sunny morning clouding up by the afternoon with rain and a force 1-4 SW wind, remaining cold.
Migration watch: 0635-1000.
The nice start to the morning seemed to bring out a few migrants which had been in hiding plus 2 more additions to the yearlist with 8 Little Tern and a Hobby keeping things ticking over.
Other migrants present today were 4 Sand Martin, 4 Yellow wagtail, 1 Redstart, 7 wheatear, 2 Ring Ouzel, 1 Song Thrush, 2 Sedge Warbler, 5 Blackcap, 4 Lesser Whitethroat, 9 Whitethroat, 7 Chiffchaff and 9 Willow Warbler.
Other bits of interest were 17 Greylag Geese, 4 Canada Geese, 1 Wigeon, 4 Gadwall, 6 Teal, 39 Whimbrel, 3 Short eared Owl, 4 Common Snipe and 4 Grey Partridge while birds on the move included 4 Cormorant, 11 Curlew out east, 55 Herring Gull, 6 Flava wagtail, 7 Jackdaw and 3 Rook.

27th April 2016 - Wednesday

A changeable day with wintry showers and sunny spells remaining cold with a force 3 N wind.
Migration watch: 0630-1000, 1500-1600.
Despite the continuing cold unseasonal weather another new species was added to the year list with a Common Tern flying north..
Migrant totals were depressingly low with 1 Cuckoo, 2 Redstart, 1 Whinchat, 2 Ring Ouzel, 2 Sedge Warbler, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Chiffchaff and 5 Willow Warbler.
Quiet again for southerly movement but the few bits on the move today were 4 Gannet, 9 Curlew out east, 1 Arctic Skua, 4 Sandwich Tern north and 1 Alba Wagtail.
Other bits of interest were 15 Greylag Geese, 3 Wigeon, 4 Gadwall, 6 Teal, 28 Whimbrel, 1 Greenshank, 2 Short eared Owl.

26th April 2016 - Tuesday

Another very cold day with frequent wintry showers and a force 4-5 N wind.
Sea Watch: 0615-1015, 1515-1545.
Pretty much the same as the the previous day. A change is the weather can't come a moment too soon.
Migrant totals were again low 2 Redstart, 2 Whinchat, 1 Wheatear, 1 Ring Ouzel, 2 Fieldfare, 1 Redwing, 2 Sedge Warbler, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Whitethroat, 3 Chiffchaff, 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Goldcrest and 2 Siskin.
The sea had a little bit of interest with 8 Common Scoter, 5 Fulmar, 76 Gannet, 2 Kittiwake, 2 Sandwich Tern, 7 Auk sp and a Puffin.
Other bits of interest a Canada Goose, 4 Gadwall, 2 Short eared Owl plus one unfortunately picked up dead at the point, 1 Cuckoo, 2 Long tailed Tit and a flock of 60 Carrion Crow.

25th April 2016 - Monday

A very cold raw day with a force 4 N wind.
Sea Watch: 0645-0930.
A pretty much terrible day for birding and few birds showing themselves.
Migrant totals were low 1 Redstart, 1 Wheatear, 3 Sedge Warbler, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Whitethroat, 2 Willow Warbler.
Other bits of interest 1 Wigeon, 4 Teal, 4 Gadwall, 2 Marsh Harrier, 1000 Knot, 3500 Dunlin, 1 Jack Snipe, 42 Whimbrel, 19 Curlew out east, 1 Greenshank, 2 Short eared Owl, 1 Barn Owl, 2 Long tailed Tit while birds south were 8 Jackdaw, 7 Rook and 52 Carrion Crow.

24th April 2016 - Sunday

Mainly cloudy with a cold force 3-4 N wind.
Sea Watch: 0620-1045.
A totally unexpected early addition to the year list was a Common Rosefinch trapped at Kew. A species which is normally seen in late spring and in the autumn. Surprisingly none were seen last year.
Migrant totals remained low 1 Cuckoo, 1 White Wagtail, 2 Redstart, 1 Whinchat, 2 Wheatear, 1 Redwing, 1 Sedge Warbler, 2 Blackcap, 4 Lesser Whitethroat, 6 Whitethroat, 12 Chiffchaff, 3 Willow Warbler and 1 Goldcrest.
On the move 4 Fulmar, 1 Red throated Diver, 53 Gannet, 1Shag,1 Arctic Skua, 1 Sandwich Tern and 14 Auk sp.
Other bits of interest 2 Wigeon, 10 Teal, 2 Gadwall, 29 Whimbrel, 1 Greenshank, 2 Short eared Owl.

23rd April 2016 - Saturday

Sunny spells and showers with a force 3-4 N wind making it feel cold.
Sea Watch: 0615-0915.
The cold northerlies continue to stifle migration and numbers remain low. Totals were 1 White Wagtail, 2 Redstart, 1 Whinchat, 7 Wheatear, 2 Ring Ouzel still at sammys, 1 Song Thrush, 1 Sedge Warbler, 1 Blackcap, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 7 Chiffchaff, 2 Willow Warbler and 1 Brambling.
On the move 5 Common Scoter, 2 Fulmar, 10 Gannet, 14 Auk sp, 2 Jackdaw, 6 Rook and 8 Carrion Crow.
Other bits of interest 1 Wigeon, 9 Teal, 2 Gadwall, 1 Marsh Harrier, 22 Avocet, 42 Whimbrel, 1 Greenshank, 1 Barn Owl, 2 Short eared Owl, 1 House Martin.

22nd April 2016 - Friday

Hazy sunshine with a cool force 2-3 E wind.
Migration watch: 0630-0915.
Another new addition for the year with 6 Common Whitethroat arriving in the area today.
Other totals were similar to last few days with 2 Cuckoo, 1 White Wagtail, 4 Yellow Wagtail, 2 Redstart, 1 Whinchat, 13 Wheatear, 2 Ring Ouzel at Sammys, 1 Song Thrush, 1 Redwing, 1 Grasshopper Warbler at wire dump, 4 Sedge Warbler, 2 Blackcap, 4 Lesser Whitethroat, 13 Chiffchaff, 5 Willow Warbler, 1 Goldcrest and 1 Firecrest at the point.
Quiet for southerly movement but bits on the move today were 5 Common scoter, 1 Red throated Diver, 2 Fulmar, 2 Gannet, 1 Marsh Harrier, 190 Herring Gull, 10 Swallow, 1 Tree Pipit, 6 Meadow Pipit in off, 4 Jackdaw and 6 Rook.
Other bits of interest were 2 Gadwall, 6 Teal, 18 Avocet, 18 Whimbrel, 1 Greenshank, 1 Little Owl, 3 Short eared Owl and 1 Merlin while 103 dark bellied Brent remain along with 1 pale bellied Brent and 1 Black Brant.

21st April 2016 - Thursday

Mainly sunny after a chilly start with a light force 1 NE wind.
Migration watch: 0630-0915.
Two more additions to the year list with Grasshopper Warbler at Sammys and a Swift that eventually flew south.
A small arrival was evident in the afternoon with totals of 1 Cuckoo, 3 White Wagtail, 6 Yellow Wagtail, 1 male Redstart and 1 Whinchat at Sammys, 20 Wheatear, 3 Ring Ouzel at Sammys, 3 Fieldfare, 3 Song Thrush, 3 Sedge Warbler, 7 Blackcap, 7 Lesser Whitethroat, 14 Chiffchaff, 7 Willow Warbler, 2 Goldcrest and 2 Brambling.
Bits on the move today were 1 Eider, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Whimbrel, 7 Curlew out northeast, 6 Sand Martin, 1 House Martin, 2 Meadow Pipit in off, 1 Flava wagtail, 2 Alba Wagtail, 3 Jackdaw, 6 Rook, 36 Carrion Crow, 13 Goldfinch and 50 Linnet.

Early morning frost then a warm and sunny day with a light force 1-2 S-SE-E wind.

A better day for migrants with 2 new additions to the year list. 5 Arctic Terns heading out east and a Cuckoo flying south.
Migrant totals were 2 Yellow Wagtail, 2 Black Redstart, 2 Wheatear, 4 Ring Ouzel at sammys, 1 Fieldfare, 2 Song Thrush, 3 Sedge Warbler, 5 Blackcap, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 18 Chiffchaff, 12 Willow Warbler and 1 Goldcrest.

Bright and sunny all day with a light frost and a force 1 NW wind.
Sea Watch: 0630-1030.
The lack of any real arrivals continues with fewer migrants than would be expected. 1 Tree Pipit, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 14 Wheatear, 3 Ring Ouzel still at sammys, 1 Sedge Warbler, 4 Blackcap, 5 Chiffchaff, 6 Willow Warbler, 2 Goldcrest and 1 Brambling.
On the move 1 Common Buzzard flew back north, 2 Whimbrel, 15 Curlew out east, 1 Mediterranean Gull, 2 Sand Martin, 2 Swallow, 1 Flava Wagtail, 4 Jackdaw, 5 Rook, 30 Carrion Crow, 1 Brambling, 2 Goldfinch and 5 Linnet.
Other bits of interest 2 Gadwall, 6 Whimbrel, 2 Short eared Owl, 1 House Martin and 24 Swallow.

18th April 2016 - Monday

A cloudy day with a cool stiff force 4-2 W-NW wind.
Migration watch: 0630-1200
A poor day overall, but some decent southerly vizmig of Linnet in less than perfect conditions. A change to winds from a more Southerly direction would help!!
Totals were 3 Pintail, 9 Common Scoter, 2 Marsh Harrier, 19 Curlew out NE, 1 Sand martin, 17 Swallow, 3 House Martin, 6 Meadow Pipit plus 22 in off, 2 Flava Wagtail, 5 Alba wagtail, 3 Rook, 77 Goldfinch, 9 Siskin and 253 Linnet.
A poor day for migrants with 15 Wheatear, 2 Ring Ouzel at sammys, 1 Fieldfare, 1 Blackcap, 3 Chiffchaff and 3 Willow Warbler the only return.
Other bits of interest were 3 Wigeon, 19 Teal and 7 Whimbrel.

17th April 2016 - Sunday

Still remaining on the cool side with sunny spells with a force 3-1 NW-W wind.
Migration watch: 0630-1400
The day was dominated by 424 Curlew heading out north east to Scandinavia with over 1000 in last few days. There cant be many more left on the Humber to go! 2 Oysercatcher and 1 Whimbrel also flew out. Otherwise there were very few birds moving south with 4 Whimbrel, 4 Sand martin, 2 House Martin, 10 Jackdaw, 38 Rook, 4 Carrion Crow, 2 Brambling, and 1 Goldfinch the best while 13 Meadow Pipit arrived off the sea.
Migrant totals perked up a little in nicer weather with 2 Yellow Wagtail, 1 White Wagtail, 1 Redstart, 1 Black Redstart, 15 Wheatear, 1 Whinchat, 3 Ring Ouzel at sammys, 1 Fieldfare, 3 Song Thrush, 1 Redwing, 2 Sedge Warbler at long bank, 4 Blackcap, 14 Chiffchaff, 1 Willow Warbler, 2 Goldcrest, 1 Brambling, 1 Siskin and 1 Mealy Redpoll.
Other bits of interest was 2 Gadwall, 48 Teal, 1 Water Rail, 2 Lapwing, 3 Snipe, 10 Whimbrel, 4 Short eared Owl, 15 Swallow and an Egyptian Goose in the triangle.

Rain until mid morning remaining cloudy with a cold force 4-3 N wind.
Sea Watch: 0625-1000.
The cold northerly seemed to stifle any arrival of migrants though a Common Sandpiper was new for the year. A few migrants remained. 1 Yellow Wagtail, 1 White Wagtail, 1 Redstart, 11 Wheatear, 3 Ring Ouzel still at sammys, 1 Fieldfare, 3 Song Thrush, 5 Blackcap, 3 Chiffchaff, 2 Willow Warbler, 5 Goldcrest, 2 Brambling and 2 Siskin.
Over the sea 16 Teal, 2 Common Scoter, 1 Red throated Diver, 19 Fulmar, 16 Gannet, 1 Kittiwake, 1 Sandwich Tern and 10 Auk sp while over land 1 Marsh Harrier went south and 7 Meadow Pipit headed NW.

15th April 2016 - Friday

A cool cloudy day with a force 1 NE-NNE wind.
Sea Watch: 0605-1705.
An obvious decline in migrant numbers but more Curlew flocks heading out north east.
The 1st Tree Pipit of the year was at the point. Other migrants were 1 Yellow Wagtail, 1 Redstart, 21 Wheatear, 2 Ring Ouzel, 3 Song Thrush, 1 Redwing, 7 Blackcap, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 27 Chiffchaff, 9 Willow Warbler, 12 Goldcrest, 1 Firecrest point and 2 Brambling
A good total of 255 Curlew flew out north east along with 1 Whimbrel while other birds on the move south were 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Sparrowhawk, 164 Herring Gull, 1 Skylark, 4 Sand Martin, 2 Swallow, 1 Grey Wagtail, 2 Alba Wagtail, 5 Magpie, 4 Rook, 7 Rook, 7 Carrion Crow, 1 Brambling, 18 Goldfinch, 1 Siskin, 99 Linnet and 1 Yellowhammer.

Bright start clouding up late morning with a cool force 1 N wind.
Migration watch: 0645-1215.
Similar to the previous day with good numbers of migrants, but also an increase in visible migration with more ‘bubbling’ Curlew heading out north east to Scandinavia.
2 new additions to the year list with 3 Lesser Whitethroat (point and kilnsea) and a House Martin south at the warren.
Migrant totals were 1 Yellow Wagtail, 1 Redstart, 1 Stonechat, 35 Wheatear, 3 Ring Ouzel at sammys, 2 Fieldfare, 3 Song Thrush, 1 Sedge Warbler, 6 Blackcap, 28 Chiffchaff, 36 Willow Warbler, 12 Goldcrest, 2 Brambling and 1 Siskin.

The best day of the spring so far with good migrant totals but quiet with birds moving south

12th April 2016 - Tuesday

A wet start which cleared up in the afternoon cool force 1-2 E-W wind.
Sea Watch: 0900-0930.
Poor weather in the morning so little birding was done clearing a bit later and a few bits turned up.
Migrant totals today of 1 Yellow Wagtail, 16 Robin, 1 Black Redstart, 2 Redstart, 7 Wheatear, 1 Sedge Warbler at long bank (1st of spring), 5 Blackcap, 19 Chiffchaff, 6 Willow Warbler, 7 Goldcrest, 1 Firecrest at the warren, 2 Siskin and 2 Common Redpoll
Moving over the sea was 13 Common Scoter, 1 Fulmar whilst 10 Curlew flew out east.
Other bits of interest were 9 Wigeon, 28 Teal, 1 Red legged Partridge and 1 Short eared Owl.

Mostly cloudy with a cool force 1-4 W-E wind.
Migration Watch: 0700-0845.
Much the same as last couple of days but with 2 new additions to the yearlist. A Green Sandpiper flying north and a Whinchat at the point which was the joint earliest (after birds in '68' and '72').
Migrant totals today of 2 Yellow Wagtail, 1 White Wagtail, 1 Black Redstart, 3 Redstart, 6 Wheatear, 3 Song Thrush, 2 Blackcap, 18 Chiffchaff, 7 Willow Warbler and 4 Goldcrest.
Moving over the sea was 2 Pintail, 1 Shoveler, 2 Tufted Duck, 1 Eider, 1 Red throated Diver, 19 Fulmar, 4 Gannet, 1 Oystercatcher, 1 Curlew, 26 Herring Gull and 8 Guillemot.
Other bits of note were 2 Gadwall, 19 Teal, 1 Whimbrel and 1 Spotted Redshank.

Ringing: 1 Blackcap, 3 Chiffchaff, 3 Willow Warbler, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Great Tit, 4 Goldfinch.

10th April 2016 - Sunday

A bright start with a heavy frost, clouding up later with a force 1-4 W-E wind.
Migration Watch: 0615-1015.
A decrease in migrant but a little bit more vizmig.
Migrant totals of 3 Yellow Wagtail, 1 Black Redstart, 2 Redstarts, 1 Wheatear, 2 Song Thrush, 1 Blackcap, 14 Chiffchaff, 3 Willow Warbler and 4 Goldcrest.
On the move was 1 Grey Heron, 1 Common Buzzard west over Humber, 3 Swallow, 4 Sand Martin, 2 Meadow Pipit, 4 Alba Wagtail, 3 Jackdaw, 13 Rook, 18 Carrion Crow, 1 Chaffinch, 12 Goldfinch, 45 Linnet, 1 Yellowhammer and 1 Reed Bunting.
Other bits of note were an early Canada Goose, 2 Gadwall, 32 Teal, 2 Whimbrel, 1 Barn Owl and 2 Short eared Owl.

9th April 2016 - Saturday

Rain until late morning the clearing up with a force 1 variable wind.
Migration Watch: 0655-1000.
An increase in migrant totals with 2 Redstarts at canal scrape the 1st of the spring plus 1 White Wagtail, 1 Black Redstart, 19 Wheatear, 1 Song Thrush, 5 Blackcap, 18 Chiffchaff, 17 Willow Warbler and 4 Goldcrest.
Other bits of note were the 1st Whimbrel of the spring on the Humber plus 2 Gadwall, 2 Teal, 1 Fulmar on the Humber, 1 Lapwing, 180 Curlew, 1 Barn Owl, 3 Short eared Owl, 1 Spotted Redshank at Sammys and 1 Black Brant plus a pale bellied Brent on Easington straight.
On the move was 1Teal, 3 Eider, 5 Common Scoter, 2 Red throated Diver, 7 Gannet, 2 Lesser black backed Gull, 4 Swallow, 6 Sand Martin, 19 Meadow Pipit, 7 Goldfinch and 25 Linnet.

8th April 2016 - Friday

A cold frosty start with plenty of sunshine clouding up later with a force 1 NW-SE wind.
Migration watch: 0615-1230.
A few more bits on the move today with 3 Gannet, 3 Cormorant, 4 Sparrowhawk, 4 Curlew out east, 6 Black headed Gull, 27 Common Gull, 76 Herring Gull, 28 GBBG, 35 Wood Pigeon, 7 Sand Martin, 3 Swallow, 16 Meadow Pipit +11 in off, 2 Flava Wagtail, 11 Alba Wagtail inc 1 White, 19 Magpie, 27 Jackdaw, 11 Rook, 61 Carrion Crow, 8 Starling, 8 Chaffinch, 9 Goldfinch, 1 siskin, 58 Linnet, 1 Yellowhammer and 3 Corn Bunting.
A Siberian Chiff chaff at Easington sewage works was apparently a new bird, while other birds reported were 19 Greylag Geese, 15 Wigeon, 19 Teal, 2 Gadwall, 1 lapwing, 1 Barn Owl, 2 Short eared Owl, 20 Meadow Pipit, 1 Yellow Wagtail and 1 Black Redstart both at Sammys, 7 Wheatear, 13 Chiff chaff, 3 Willow Warbler, 2 Goldcrest, 6 Goldfinch and 25 Linnet.

7th April 2016 - Thursday

A cold start with frequent showers and a decreasing force 4-1 WNW-NW wind.
Migration watch: 0915-1115.
The first Yellow Wagtail of the spring was at sammys point while a new Firecrest was on Beacon Lane with the other bird still at Easington sewage works. Migrant totals were 10 Wheatear, 7 Chiff chaff, 2 Willow Warbler, 2 Goldrest and 2 Brambling.
Other birds present today were 12 Wigeon, 2 Gadwall, 4 Teal, 22 Avocet Kilnsea Wetlands, 1 Barn Owl, 1 Short eared Owl, 6 Chaffinch and 20 Linnet.
Birds on the move included 8 Teal, 1 Common Scoter, 1 Red throated diver, 1 Gannet, 3 Cormorant, 1 Marsh Harrier, 3 Lesser black backed Gull, 135 Herring Gull, 1 Sand Martin, 5 Meadow Pipit, 2 Alba wagtail, 8 Jackdaw, 3 Rook, 2 Goldfinch and 3 Linnet.

6th April 2016 - Wednesday

Heavy showers and sunny spells with an increasing force 3-6 W wind.
Migration watch: 0830-1045.
A quiet day for movement but some quality in the form of a Common Crane which came south before returning north over Easington as did a Red Kite. Other bits on the move were 1 Gannet, 1 Lapwing out east, 9 Meadow Pipit, 3 Alba Wagtail, 4 Jackdaw, 8 Rook, 4 Carrion Crow, 6 Chaffinch, 11 Goldfinch and 10 Linnet.
A good record on the land was a Water Pipit on canal scrape, but other totals were 4 Greylag Geese, 4 Teal, 1 Common Buzzard, 20 Meadow Pipit, 10 wheatear, 3 Blackcap, 2 Chiff chaff, 10 Chaffinch, 2 Brambling, 6 Goldfinch and 1 Siskin while the Siberian Chiff chaff remained at Easington sewage works.

Ringing: 1 Wheatear, 1 Blackcap, 1 Chiff chaff, 4 Chaffinch, 1 Brambling + Norwegian controlled bird, 1 Goldfinch.

A cool start to the daybut rain by early afternoon with a light force 1-3 SW wind.
Migration watch: 0615-0845.
Increase on birds moving south especially finches but few strangely few Meadow Pipits despite big numbers in/off further north. On the move was 3 Wigeon, 2 Cormorant, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Common Buzzard back north, 1 Kestrel, 25 Black headed Gull, 2 Stock Dove, 96 Wood Pigeon, 6 Sand Martin, 3 Swallow, 5 Meadow Pipit in off, 7 Alba Wagtail, 21 Jackdaw, 14 Rook, 41 Carrion Crow, 1 House Sparrow, 23 Chaffinch, 9 Greenfinch, 46 Goldfinch, 248 Linnet, 5 Yellowhammer, 3 Reed Bunting and 1 Corn Bunting..
Present was 8 Greylag Geese, 750 Brent Geese, 1 Jack Snipe clubleys, 2 Common Snipe, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker, 15 Meadow Pipit, 1 Black Redstart along the canal, 11 Wheatear, 1 Fieldfare, 2 Song Thrush, 27 Redwing, 1 Blackcap, 7 Chiff chaff, 2 Willow Warbler, 4 Goldcrest, 56 Carrion Crow, 1 Brambling, 10 Goldfinch and 1 Siskin while the Siberian Chiff chaff remained at Easington sewage works with 20 Chiff chaff and the Firecrest..

4th April 2016 - Monday

Damp and low cloud from dawn then rain by mid morning until mid afternoon with a force 1-2 S wind.
Birds on the move were 5 Sand Martin, 2 Swallow, 24 Meadow Pipit, 4 Alba Wagtail, 2 Fieldfare, 1 Redpoll and 14 Linnet whilst a male Ring Ouzel at the warren also went south.
Other bits of note in the poor weather were 1 Black Brant, 2 Teal, 1 Spotted Redshank sammys point, 8 Swallow, 1 Black Redstart, 9 Wheatear, female Ring Ouzel Holderness field, 4 Song Thrush, 20 Redwing, 1 Blackcap, 11 Chiff-chaff, 6 Willow Warbler, 3 Goldcrest, 8 Chaffinch, 1 Brambling, 8 Goldfinch and 1 Siskin whilst the Siberian Chiff-chaff and Firecrest remained at Easington sewage works.

3rd April 2016 - Sunday

A cool misty start slowly cleared late morning, when long periods of sunshine and a force 2 SSW-SE wind.
Migration Watch: 0730-1330.

A good selection and number of migrants were present after the mist cleared, with totals of 14 Wheatear 10 Fieldfare, 1 Redwing, 1 Blackcap, 28 Chiff-chaff, 9 Willow Warbler and 18 Goldcrest, while an Osprey caught a fish by the lighthouse and munched it on the beach.
The Siberian Chiff-chaff and Firecrest were still present at Easington sewage works whilst both Black Brant were still present with 700 Brent Geese along with 3 pale bellied Brent. Other bits of interest were 28 Wigeon, 2 Gadwall, a hybrid Wigeon x Gadwall, 29 Teal, 4 Shoveler, 7 Common Scoter, 1 Jack Snipeand 4 Snipe.
On the move 11 Shelduck in/off, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Sparrowhawk, 3 Kestrel, 7 Golden Plover in/off, 1 Woodcock, 2 Sandwich Tern out, 4 Swallow, 21 Sand Martin, 35 Meadow Pipit, 32 Alba Wagtail, 1 Great Tit, 8 Jackdaw, 38 Rook, 6 Carrion Crow, 10 Greenfinch, 10 Chaffinch, 37 Goldfinch, 166 Linnet, 1 Yellowhammer, 4 Reed Bunting, a Serin which flew south past the warren and a Bar headed Goose (heading back to Holland?).

2nd April 2016 - Saturday

A cold windy wet start slowly cleared early afternoon, when long periods of sunshine and a force 3-2 SSW-SE wind.
Migration Watch: 0900-1100.

A small arrival was noticeable after the rain stopped. The highlight was a Woodlark at chalk bank which moved to the point plus totals of 2 White Wagtail, 18 Pied Wagtail, 1 Black Redstart, 8 Wheatear, 3 Song Thrush, 3 Blackcap, 51 Chiff-chaff, 1 Willow Warbler, 39 Goldcrest, 2 Firecrest and 1 Brambling whilst the Siberian Chiff-chaff remained at Easington sewage works.
Some movement after the rain saw totals of 1 Grey Heron, 1 Sand Martin, 1 Swallow north, 11 Meadow Pipit with 63 in/off then west, 3 Jackdaw, 3 Rook, 4 Greenfinch, 7 Goldfinch, 1 Siskin and 25 Linnet. Over the sea 1 Eider, 3 Common Scoter, 2 Red throated Diver, 1 Great crested Grebe, 2 Gannet, 11 Oystercatcher and 6 Auk sp.
2 Black Brant was on the Humber early morning with 600 Brent plus 2 pale bellied Brent.
In the area 74 Shelduck, 33 Wigeon, 2 Gadwall, 33 Teal, 1 Merlin, 1 Short eared Owl, 3 Barn Owl and 1 Black tailed Godwit.

Ringing: 1 Blackcap, 2 Chiff-chaff, 1 Great Tit, 2 Goldfinch, 1 House Sparrow.

1st A cool cloudy day with some early morning sunshine and a chilly force 3+ SSW wind.
Migration Watch: 0645-1040.

Some early morning movement past the warren with 3 Shelduck, 6 Teal, 3 Common Scoter, 3 Red throated Diver, 1 Great crested Grebe, 12 Oystercatcher, 1Knot, 1 Dunlin, 2 Curlew +2 very vocal birds in/off, 38 Black headed Gull, 218 Herring Gull, 2 Stock Dove, 14 Meadow Pipit + 8 in/Off, 9 Alba Wagtail, 3 Jackdaw, 12 Rook, 178 Starling, 13 Chaffinch, 4 Brambling, 10 Greenfinch, 28 Goldfinch, 4 Siskin, 119 Linnet, 5 Reed Bunting and 7 Yellowhammer.
2 Black Brant were with 620 Brent and 2 pale bellied Brent at long bank while other bits of note were 62 Shelduck, 26 Wigeon, 9 Teal, 1 Merlin, 9 Moorhen, 2 Lapwing, 1 Spotted Redshank at Sammys, 650 Oystercatcher Humber, 8 Avocet Kilnsea Wetlands, 5 Snipe, 1 Short-eared Owl Sammys, 2 Wheatear, 6 Chiff chaff, 14 Goldcrest, 8 Goldfinch and 4 Siskin while the Siberian Chiff-chaff and Firecrest remained at Easington sewage works.

Ringing: 3 Goldcrest, 3 Chaffinch, 2 Greenfinch, 2 Goldfinch, 1 Siskin.
