Cloudy with frequent showers and longer spells of rain with a F5-6 SW wind.
Sea-watch- 07:55-12:00.
On the move were 3 Common Scoter, 43 Red-throated Diver, 29 Gannet, 2 Cormorant, 1 Shag, 1 Bonxie, 162 Herring Gull, 17 Great Black-backed Gull, 2 Kittiwake, 122 auk sp., 8 Razorbill.

30th January 2016 - Saturday

Bright and sunny until rain in the evening and a F3-4 WSW wind.
Sea-watch- 07:45-12:00.
On the move were 5 Pink-footed Goose, 2 Wigeon, 19 Teal, 2 Mallard, 1 Eider, 1 Goldeneye, 159 Red-throated Diver, 15 Gannet, 2 Cormorant, 1 Lapwing (in-off), 117 Black-headed Gull, 21 Common Gull, 425 Herring Gull, 1 Kittiwake, 244 auk sp., 80 Razorbill.
Also present were 1 adult Black Brant with the Brents at Long Bank, 8 Goldeneye, 4 Grey Partridge, 2 Peregrine hunting waders.

Ringing- 1 House Sparrow.

29th January 2016 - Friday

Bright and sunny all day with a strong F6 WSW wind.
Sea-watch- 07:50-11:30.
On the move were 1 Shelduck, 1 Wigeon, 2 Mallard, 1 Eider, 7 Red-throated Diver, 1 Fulmar, 29 Gannet, 1 Lapwing (in-off), 31 Common Gull, 95 Herring Gull, 21 Great Black-backed Gull, 5 Kittiwake, 117 auk sp., 1 Razorbill.
Also present were the Slavonian Grebe on Kilnsea Wetlands, 106 Grey Plover, 180 Common Gull, 2 Snow Bunting on the beach off the Bluebell.

28th January 2016 - Thursday

A bright start, later clouding over with a F4-6+ SW wind.
Sea-watch- 08:15-11:25.
Some good counts of divers and auks, totals being, 46 Pink-footed Geese, 3 Common Scoter, 276 Red-throated Diver, 1 Black-throated Diver, 1 Great Northern Diver, 63 Gannet, 1 Cormorant, 1 Mediterranean Gull, 41 Common Gull, 253 Herring Gull, 18 Great Black-backed Gull, 11 Kittiwake, 369 auk sp.
Also present were 14 Greylag Geese, 2 Goldeneye, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Jack Snipe, 172 Curlew, 1 Stonechat, 1 Song Thrush.

27th January 2016 - Wednesday

Another awful wild day with a F5-6 SW and heavy showers.
Sea-watch- 08:00-11:15.
On the move were 52 Wigeon, 2 Teal, 2 Eider, 129 Red-throated Diver, 182 Gannet, 53 Common Gull, 96 Herring Gull, 27 Great Black-backed Gull, 14 Kittiwake, 194 auk sp., 3 Guillemot, 1 Razorbill.

26th January 2016 - Tuesday

A very wild day with a F5-6+ SW and frequent showers.
Sea-watch- 08:00-10:40.
On the move were 2 Shelduck, 12 Wigeon, 3 Common Scoter, 2 Red-throated Diver, 18 Gannet, 1 Curlew, 3 Kittiwake, 2 auk sp. Also present were the Slavonian Grebe on Kilnsea Wetlands, 13 Long-tailed Tit in Easington and 300 Starling at Kilnsea Wetlands.

25th January 2016 - Monday

Sunny spells, clouding over late afternoon with rain early evening a strong F3-4 SW wind.
Sea-watch- 08:00-10:15.
On the move were 110 Pink-footed Geese (NW), 1 Pintail, 38 Red-throated Diver, 13 Gannet, 40 Common Gull. Also present were the Slavonian Grebe on Kilnsea Wetlands, 12 Greylag Geese, 3 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Merlin, 1 Peregrine, 20 Common Gull, 2 Skylark, 3 Meadow Pipit, 2 Stonechat, 1 Goldcrest and upto 5 Mink are being more regularly seen.

24th January 2016 - Sunday

Cloudy with showers early on, a F3-2 SW wind.
Sea-watch- 08:10-10:15.
On the move were 26 Teal, 4 Eider, 5 Red-throated Diver, 1 Fulmar, 1 Gannet, 1 Shag, 1 Golden Plover, 1 Woodcock (in-off), 21 Herring Gull. Also present were the Slavonian Grebe on Kilnsea Wetlands, 27 Greylag Geese, 7 Goldeneye, 1 Kingfisher around the Riding School and 3 Stonechat.

23rd January 2016 - Saturday

Cloudy all day with rain late afternoon and a F3 SW wind.
Sea-watch- 08:15-11:30.
On the move were 124 Wigeon, 12 Teal, 5 Eider, 1 Common Scoter, 2 Pintail, 111 Red-throated Diver, 9 Gannet, 1 Cormorant, 1 Red Kite u-turned over Kilnsea Wetlands, 1 Snipe, 20 Common Gull, 124 Herring Gull, 2 Kittiwake, 4 Auk sp., 1 Guillemot, 23 Knot, 2 Dunlin. Also present were 2 Black Brant on Long Bank Marsh, a 1w Tundra Bean Goose with 36 Greylags in Well Field, the Slavonian Grebe on Kilnsea Wetlands, 232 Wigeon, 10 Goldeneye, 2 Marsh Harrier, 5 Woodcock, 1 Short-eared Owl at Long Bank, 1 Kingfisher at Sammy’s Point, 3 Stonechat.

22nd January 2016 - Friday

Rain until early afternoon with a F3 WSW wind brightening up later on.
Sea-watch- 08:30-10:30.
A quiet sea-watch with just 1 Common Scoter and 3 Red-throated Diver on the move. Also present were, 1 adult Black Brant in the Long Bank area, the Slavonian Grebe still on Kilnsea Wetlands, 51 Shelduck, 6 Teal, 1 Cormorant and 3 Woodcock in Easington.

21st January 2016 - Thursday

Cloudy all day with a light force 2-4 SW wind.
Seawatch: 0800-1045.
Not much birding done today.
Birds on the move were 3 Shelduck, 3 Wigeon, 8 Teal, 2 Eider, 1 Common Scoter, 7 Goldeneye, 2 Red breasted Merganser, 14 Red throated Diver, 2 Gannet, 96 Herring Gull, 20 Great black backed Gull and 1 Little Gull.
Other bits of note was 8 Teal, 15 Lapwing and 1 Woodcock.

Cloudy all day with a light force 1 SW wind.
Seawatch: 0800-1015
The Slavonian Grebe remained on Kilnsea Wetlands plus the 2 Black Brant in a flock of 570 Brents which included 6 juveniles, whilst other bits of interest were 1 Whooper Swan, 33 Greylag Geese, 1 Shoveler, 5 Goldeneye, 7000 Knot, 80 Lapwing, 2 Black tailed Godwit, 2 Woodcock, 5 Goldfinch, 2 Siskin, 42 Linnet.
Birds on the move were 7 Wigeon, 21 Red throated Diver, 1 Gannet, 1 Auk sp,

19th January 2016 - Tuesday

Mainly cloudy with some light drizzle and a cold force 2 SW wind.
Seawatch: 0815-1000.
More work today at Tharlesthorpe staining the cedar timbers for the cladding to the outside of the building most of the day.
The Slavonian Grebe remained on Kilnsea Wetlands whilst other bits of interest were 1 Whooper Swan, 30 Greylag Geese, 1 Pochard, 40 Common Scoter, 6 Goldeneye, 120 Lapwing, 1 Jack Snipe, 2 Snipe, 1 Woodcock, Kingfisher, 1 Stonechat, 1 Redwing, 1 Mistle Thrush, 24 Linnet and 1 Snow Bunting.
Birds on the move were 11 Wigeon, 5 Red throated Diver, 1 Gannet.

18th January 2016 - Monday

Mainly cloudy with some light drizzle and a cold force 3 SW wind.

More work today at Tharlesthorpe staining the cedar timbers for the cladding to the outside of the building during the day but, Sad news reached us in the evening that the former chairman of Spurn Bird Observatory John Cudworth had died after a long illness.
The Slavonian Grebe remained on Kilnsea Wetlands whilst other bits of interest were 1 Whooper Swan, 15 Greylag Geese,1 Jack Snipe, 1 Woodcock, q Kingfisher, 1 Stonechat, 1 Redwing, 1 Mistle Thrush, 24 Linnet and 1 Snow Bunting.

Sunny spells with the odd wintry shower in a force 2-1 NW wind.

The Slavonian Grebe was still present on Kilnsea Wetland plus in the area 1 Whooper Swan, 31 Greylag Geese, 300+ Brent Geese, 240 Wigeon, 13 Teal, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Goldeneye, 6 Eider, 1 Snipe, 1 Woodcock, 13 Black tailed Godwit, 1 Greenshank, 2 Short eared Owl, 1 Barn Owl and 4 Stonechat.
Not much moving but 25 Pink footed Geese, 14 Wigeon, 4 Common Scoter, 1 Great northern Diver, 22 Red throated Diver, 1 Gannet, 1 Bonxie, 9 Auk sp, 1 Guillemot, 1 Razorbill and over the land 1 Siskin.

Ringing: 1 Oystercatcher, 5 Knot, 2 House Sparrow.

15th January 2016 - Friday

Cloudy with an overnight frost and some lying snow, mostly sunny with a force 3-1 NW wind.
Seawatch: 0825-1200.
A milder day so few bits seen today. Over the sea 2 Eider, 7 Common Scoter, 10 Red throated Diver, 1 Gannet, 17 Shag, 1 Bonxie, 96 Common Gull, 34 Herring Gull, 19 Auk sp, 2 Guillemot and 5 Razorbill.
Other noted birds were 1 Whooper Swan, 31 Greylag Geese, 228 Brent Geese, 3 Teal, 1 Snipe, 230 Common Gull, 1 Short eared Owl, 2 Stonechat, 1 Fieldfare and 3 Redwing.

Mostly cloudy till mid-day the wintry showers in a stiffening 3-5 WNW-NW wind.
Seawatch: 0830-1040 1130-1400
A quiet day with the main interest over the sea. Moving was 7 Common Scoter, 13 Red throated Diver, 3 Wigeon, 1 Gannet, 2 Shag, 1 Bonxie, 1 Pomarine Skua, 4 Auk sp, 5 Razorbill and 2 Fulmar (1 Blue phase bird).
Otherwise the Whooper Swan on Easington straight, 20 Greylag Geese, 1 Merlin and 24 Linnet were only other bits noted.

13th January 2016 - Wednesday

Sunny spells all day and a force 2-3 SSW wind.

The Slavonian Grebe remained on Kilnsea Wetlands whilst other bits of interest were 1 Whooper Swan, 13 Greylag Geese, 26 Wigeon, 1 Goosander, 2 Short eared Owl, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker and 2 Red legged Partridge.
Birds on the move were 25 Pink footed Geese, 2 Teal, 20 Common Scoter, 2 Velvet Scoter, 28 Red throated Diver, 1 Gannet, 2 Cormorant, 12 Shag, 1 Bonxie, 1 Little Gull, 78 Herring Gull, 1 Kittiwake, 146 Auk sp and 7 Razorbill.

Mostly cloudy with some showers or sunny spells and a force 2-3 W-WNW wind.

Highlights of the day were 7 White fronted Geese in the triangle with 23 Greylags and a Red necked Grebe flew north while the Slavonian Grebe remained on Kilnsea Wetlands. Other bits of interest were 1 Whooper Swan, 12 Teal, 2 Goldeneye, 8 Snipe, 12 Black tailed Godwit, 250 Common Gull, 1 Stonechat, 1 Redwing, 9 Goldfinch and 24 Linnet.
Birds on the move were 14 Wigeon, 23 Common Scoter, 98 Red throated Diver, 1 Great northern Diver, 15 Gannet, 2 Cormorant, 5 Shag, 1 Bonxie, 1 Little Gull, 91 Herring Gull, 2 Kittiwake, 57 Auk sp and 2 Razorbill.

The only notable sightings were 2 Black Brant, the Slavonian Grebe, 1 Whooper Swan, 27 Greylag Geese, 21 Tea, 330 Lapwing, 12 Black tailed Godwit, 1 Skylark, 1 Chiff-chaff and 1 Rock Pipit.

Not much birding was done today with a work party at Tharlesthorpe. Painting, carpet removal, rubbish burning, scrap metal removal (tons), new radiators, bit of concreting etc etc. A massive amount of work was achieved today.
Cloudy with the odd shower and some sunny spells and a force 2-3 SE wind.

The Slavonian Grebe remained on Kilnsea Wetland and showed well. In the area the 2 Black Brant remained on holderness field in 500+ dark-bellied Brents. Totals of wildfowl were 1 Whooper Swan, 27 Greylag Geese, 300 Wigeon, 9 Teal, 60 Mallard and 6 Goldeneye plus 12 Little Grebe, 4 Little Egret, 2 Cormorant, 1 Water Rail canal scrape, 80 Lapwing, 1 Woodcock, 220 Redshank, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker, 1 Grey Wagtail, 2 Fieldfare, 4 Redwing, 1 Mistle Thrush, 1 Chiff chaff, 8 Long tailed Tit and 12 Goldfinch.

A nice day with long periods of sun, clouding up ealr afternoon with the odd shower and a force 1-3 SW wind.
Seawatch: 0800-1000
The Slavonian Grebe moved onto Beacon Ponds and showed well. In the area the 2 Black Brant remained on holderness field along with 1 pale-bellied Brent and the dark-bellied Brents increased to 500+ (only 1 juvenile still). Totals of wildfowl were 1 Whooper Swan, 327 Wigeon, 30 Teal, 3 Gadwall, 60 Mallard and 6 Goldeneye plus 12 Little Grebe, 4 Little Egret, 1 Little Gull, 3 Stonechat and a Snow Bunting at the warren.

7th January 2016 - Thursday

Constant rain from early morning with a fresh 4 SE, becoming stronger in the afternoon to force 6+ WNW.
Seawatch: 0820-1140.
The highlight of the day was a superb Slavonian Grebe showing well on Kilnsea wetlands with a Little Grebe plus in the immediate area 300 Brent Geese, 31 Greylag Geese, 1 Pink footed Goose, 1 Whooper Swan, 300 Wigeon, 18 Teal, 3 Gadwall, 2 Goldeneye and 15 Black tailed Godwit.

6th January 2016 - Wednesday

Cloudy all day with frequent showers and drizzle and a force 2-3 SE.
Seawatch: 0810-1200 1430-1600.
A decent day of southerly movement over the sea. 107 Fulmar including 6 ‘Blue Fulmar’, was a great count and all moved in the afternoon. Also moving 2 Wigeon, 29 Common Scoter, 7 Goldeneye, 8 Red throated Diver, 12 Gannet, 2 Bar tailed Godwit, 3 Bonxie, 29 Little Gull, 33 Black headed Gull, 16 Kittiwake, 249 Auk sp, 43 Guillemot, 31 Razorbill and 4 Little Auk.
Other bits of interest was 2 Black Brant, 1 Whooper Swan, 1 Pink footed Goose, tail, 28 Greylag Geese, 20 Teal, 2 Goldeneye, 4 Woodcock, 1 Barn Owl, 15 Fieldfare, 2 2ong Thrush, 63 Redwing and 6 Snow Bunting.

Mostly cloudy with showers but also sunny spells and a force 1 SE.

The day of the Michael Clegg Memorial Bird Race saw more southerly passage of wildfowl. The highlights were 4 Bean Geese and 7 White-fronted Geese plus 183 Wigeon, 189 Teal, 1 Mallard, 1 Pintail, 5 Common Scoter, 5 Goldeneye, 27 Red throated Diver, 1 Black throated Diver, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Bonxie, 6 Little Gull whilst moving overland 111 Lapwing, 4 Stock Dove, 1 Fieldfare, 2 Song Thrush, 19 Redwing and 3 Goldfinch.

Help needed on Saturday 9th January to work on the New Bird Observatory
Two cubic meters of mixed concrete will arrive at 8am but there are many more jobs inside where plastering is almost completed and potentially painting to be started. As always any help much appeciated whether you can only afford an hour or five please come along. Thank you.

In the long bank area 2 White fronted Geese, 1 Barnacle goose, 1 Black Brant, 1 Whooper Swan and 32 Greylag Geese whilst birds in area 205 Wigeon, 11 Teal, 1 Goldeneye, 32 Lapwing, 1 Snipe, 1 Greenshank, 1 Barn Owl, 2 Short eared Owl, 12 Goldfinch and 28 Linnet.

A great nights celebrations and lots of sore heads following New Year celebrations in the Crown and Anchor.

In the area 32 Greylag Geese, 300 Wigeon, 8 Teal, 1 Goldeneye all Kilnsea Wetlands, 1 Merlin, 700 Oystercatcher chalk bank, 1 Snipe, 1 Greenshank, Short eared Owl picked up dead, 2 Stonechat, 6 Goldcrest point, 10 Long tailed Tit and 7 Snow Bunting beacon ponds.
