Clive McKay is one of the country’s most enthusiastic visible migration watchers and the UK co-ordinator of the visible migration website Trektellen. He has been birding and ‘vis-migging’ since the early 1970’s and here he shares his experience of the inaugural Spurn Migration Festival from September 2013.

“My first trip to Spurn was in 1977 and I have a particular fondness for the place and no Autumn would be complete without a trip to Spurn. At Opticron we have sponsored the Spurn Bird Obs website for several years and YWT are an Opticron retailer It was an easy decision to attend the inaugural Migration Festival.

BBC Autumnwatch artist at Spurn Migration Festival

Among many accolades he was commissioned to do a piece for the Duke of Edinburgh’s 90th Birthday as well as being artist in residence on the BBC’s Autumnwatch and demonstrated his painting on Springwatch (unsprung).

The Spurn Migration Festival welcomes Darren Woodhead to this years event: 5th-6th September 2014.
